I voted remain. I'm trully shocked at the outcome, ashamed that people are basically so selfish. I feel sorry for all the young people whose potential futures may have just been trashed because Tracey, 42 year old single mother of 6 kids in Hull, doesn't like Polish people. Or Bob, an ex miner (20 fucking years ago) in Nottingham believes his industry will come back. I hear people saying they want to put the Great back into Britain. Instead they are simply putting the Cunt back into Country. It's a big world and Britain needs to get out of this Empire attitude, those days are gone. I don't have a side here as i'm aware the guys at the bottom of the ladder get screwed by those at the top regardless, and British or foreign, there's no such thing as a good politician in power. However I can provide a perspective from the mind of the average, neutral person. If I had to vote, I would have picked leave, and it wouldn't have been for good, informed reasons, it would have been for reasons that had nothing to do with the EU as a whole. For one, Remain used scare tactics, threats (as did the EU and Obama) and even used a murder to try and further their aims, instead of focusing on countering Leaves arguements with facts. My response to being threatened is to tell that person to go fuck themselves. That's what happened. Second, every politician who has been screwing the average joe over for years and smiled whilst doing it, was desperate for us to stay. With that in mind, it's easy to think that those self serving muppets were just looking out for themselves again. Then there were also the issues of immigration, the much abused human rights act etc. As for the old people, it was people over the age of 65 who mainly voted leave. They are the generations that voted us in to the EU first time around and have had a few decades to reflect on that decision and any promises that were made etc. The fact that the people that originally wanted us in, now voted out, speaks volumes to me. Leave didn't do a great job either. There was far too much propaganda and bullshit from both sides making it impossible to just find the truthful facts beneath it all, making it so that hardly anyone had any real clue as to the real pro's and con's and as such they just went with which ever sides arguement swayed them most. It's why I didn't vote.

Agreed RIP. A lot of people voted basically just to give the middle finger to the government.

The government should have expected it too, especially after the threats. As a nation, we don't give in to threats, the fact the EU and Obama did it too didn't help remain and instead helped leave. They should have taken a less aggressive stance and tried appealing to the general populace using easy to understand info as the average person has no clue about politics or the advantages/disadvantages of the EU. Unfortunately for them they didn't. Boris did. I've no doubt that alone swung millions of votes in leaves favour.
In general it showed an amazing lack of understanding from our government, they have no idea how the average commoner thinks, or what they have strong feelings about. Regardless of everything else I hope it serves as a wake up call, though I doubt it will.

I really don't think it will be as bad as everyone makes out, personally I wished they delayed the vote by 6 months so we could decipher the facts from the shite (of which there was lots from both sides). But I understand why they couldn't and I voted with my heart and head, I read up on both sides and actually switched my decision 5 or 6 times, right up until last night.
Germany has already said that they want us to stay as an associated partner to the EU, France has said that travel between the two Nations will not change, and now there's a list of 6-7 EU Nations who are concidering a referendum of their own. Canada too has come forward and said they look forward to a stronger trading partnership between us. So all in all, yes we will have a rough couple of years until this country becomes Great again without the unelected EU asshats telling us what and when to do things. Hell, within 2 yrs there could be no EU at all and we can happily trade with whoever we want.
That's just my 2 pence worth anyway.

Obama has come out and said nothing will change between us now. Surprise surprise. Empty threats. Not sure why he got involved anyway, America has enough problems that he should be dealing with instead of concerning himself with the EU atm.

R35t...I think you hit the nail on the head, and also laid bare the problems with modern politics, the media's bias instead of just reporting news and facts and most importantly, our politician's inability/lack of knowledge/lack of concern for the average citizen that relies on them to make sound decisions for their constituents whom they actually work for.
Instead, many elites determine on their own volition what is good for the average citizen and enjoy their circle of politicians and all the boot licking, ass kissing and fancy meals in a bubble of people who think just like them. I think that the average citizen is getting fed up with this type of activity is finally raising their voices to be heard.(at least in the US).

I find it unfathomable that in a country of over 300 million people we ended up with Clinton and Trump as our two choices. Our politics has become so poisoned that nobody in their right mind and capability would want to throw their hat in the (circus) ring.

To be honest with our EU Referendum I've seen lots of parallels with the US Presidential Election. So much he said she said bullshit. If it wasnt supposed to be serious it would be comical.

Makes it extremely difficult for the average person to sift through the BS in order to make an informed opinion.
That said, I may not agree with the "other side", but I respect their right to have an opinion that differs from mine.

It just shows how low education has got in the country has got that people dont understand things Modern politics isn't generally part of the curriculum, and i'm not sure it ever has been. I think schools teach world war 1 and 2 politics, the treaty of versailles and such but modern politics doesn't come up, which is why most people are in the dark with regards to the pro's and cons of the referendum. I'm surprised the EU hasn't been one of the most searched things this week in general tbh.

I remember having to read about the formation of the EEC and Milk Reservoirs and Grain Mountains as surplus and regulations about set aside for farming.

Did you take Geography as a year 10 and 11 option? (i think that's what they were called). In geography I learned about Japanese nuclear powerplants of all things after I selected it, don't remember much else.

But do remember having to learn about subsistence, intensive and commercial farming which necessitated learning about the EEC
