I love the WW2 ones but i will go with the only plane i've had as opfor during my 10 months of military training back when i was 19.  Ah, the mighty JAS-39C Gripen. My second favorite modern fighter, and an excellent platform. I wish I could see these in real life. |

They flew below our radar when we had the mobile radar up on a mountain, i got a few looks at them when they went past in the valley below, and then came up for a fly by to tease us after avoiding detection.
It was fun to try finding the plane with the jammer, in all the false echos.

I'll have to make plans to visit Scandinavia at some point and see these. And maybe a Drakken if I get lucky. Oh, I'd give up a lot to see a Drakken.

Which branch of service were you in? AA, technical officer on a mobile radar unit. Basically counter jamming and responsible for the radio and the computer for linking up with the big air base radars. Army Anti Air. With radar equipped anti-helicopter CV90s as close defence. |

The Swedes certainly know how to make an aircraft look good and fly well. |

I wish it had honestly, along with the TSR.2 from Britain, and the F-106C/D/X series from the US. Those three would have been the most advanced aircraft of the cold war era had they come into being. |
