Want to get a premium but my budget is pretty limited( yay for kid on the way lol) so I will likely be able to afford one.
I play mostly cruisers and battleships, American or German. Not looking for a particular tier but at least tier 5. Given I have limited time to play im just looking for a fun ship.
Any suggestions?

In the order of fun, this is how I rate the premiums I play regularly: Scharnhorst, Leningrad, Kutuzov (not currently available), Alabama, Tirpitz, Atlanta (not a great ship, but hilariously fun to play), Sims, Giulio Cesare. De Grasse is also a fantastic ship.
Indianapolis and Prinz Eugen would be two ships I would *not* recommend.

Indy is a terrible ship. Atlanta is very difficult to play well by all accounts.
Shame the Emden isn't for sale. Tier 2 German cruiser. Looks like a lot of fun.

I've got a few, largely thanks to Yurei, thanks again if you read this.
Scharnhorst: very fun, very good, fast ship. Seems to reward you the crazier you play, it encourages fun.
HMS Hood: the tankiest ship i own (as in MMO tank). Her guns aren't reliable but she can take a beating. Great for teaming up with CA's an DDs and keeping enemy fire off them. Also has hilarious AA. With the right build she can take out a CVs entire compliment of aircraft extremely quickly. Also fast. She's better at fighting cruisers than BBs though.
HMS Warspite: slow, with low range without using her plane. However, she has a tiny turning circle, amazing accuracy, and her guns are monstrous. Same calibre as those found on Bismarck, at tier 6. She can and will punch clean through the armour of tier 4-7 BBs head on. I'm told she's similar to Yamato in that sense. Be wary of Warspite if engaging her.
Gulio Cesare: a beautiful, fairly stealthy, fast italian BB. She can be tanky vs same tier opponents but this ship is best at playing like a battlecruiser it seems, using her stealth and speed to put her shells where they are needed most.
USS Texas: fairly standard BB but with amazing anti-air. She's slow, but do a fair bit of damage and can take it too. Think of the T-14 from WoT, Texas is like that, can get the job done, but without flair.
Oktabraskya revolutysia (no idea if i spelt that right, but that's how you would pronounce it i believe): Gangut class Russian BB. She gets a better damage control party but with limited uses. A bit of a quirky ship, but she has the heaviest broadside found in tier 5, due to that she's quite fun imho.
Konig Albert: Imagine a Matilda tank, now give it PMM. That's what this BB is kind of like. It was taken off sale due to being completely OP.

What's the server switch feature? The game launcher is server locked. I inadvertently downloaded the EU server client so when I realised everyone was on NA, there was no way to join them. However, there is a major modpack for WoWS and one of the features it provides is the ability to switch servers at will (account migration not possible, of course). |

Thoughts on premium ships I actually have:
Diana is pretty much junk. Just a free tier II that helps train Soviet crews a bit. Can be hilarious at times, but overall meh.
The Murmansk is an Omaha with 8km torps vs. 5.5 km, and better penetration on its guns because RUSSSSSSSIA!!! Fun ship, though soft, and one I think I'll enjoy.
The Okhotnik is the TOG of boats -- it's stupid long and basically a meme waiting to happen. Why? Well, you have guns that can take out a same-tier DD with two salvos and 12 torpedo launchers on the aft end that are hilarious for YOLO rushes. Damn near had 100k damage in the thing the other night ... in a co-op game. It's stupidly fun, though takes a day and a half to turn, so keep that in mind. Also, it's long. Like, really long, so torps will rek you.
Texas is great if a carrier is on the red team, meh if not. The guns are derpy as fuck -- you never know where your shells will land. Not my fave.
Only played a few co-op games in the Gulio Cesare but it's ... wow, it's guns are good. Like, stupid good. First ever salvo in it was 15K on a Cleveland, followed the next salvo by 10K on a Texas...from the front. The thing just citadels seemingly everything. Going to run it a bunch this weekend, I think.
Warspite is a damn good ship, though it'd be best to wait until you have at least a tier V tech tree ship. Unlike most Royal Navy battleships, the AP in it is outstanding, so you don't go around HE spamming in it. Even does well when up-tiered, and has a super-small turning radius for a BB, letting you get out of jams pretty well. BONUSES: It gets the same repair party as cruisers, which cools down in 60 seconds rather than 80-90 (??) for typical battleships, and the heal on the Royal Navy battleships is insane -- 20% more than other nations. Issue is firing range, which is really short (16.2ishKM, IIRC) and hitting things with a spotter plane is tricky.
The Hood seems okayish, but don't have enough battles to really tell. It gets Defensive AA as a consumable, instead of a spotter plane, making it a no-fly zone with a captain that is AA spec'd. It also gets that stupid powerful heal like the Warspite. Need to run it more, but waiting for randoms until I get to VII in the tech tree, tbh. Tier VIII and IX have ships I've never battled, and some have things like radar -- but I have no clue which ones. Need to study higher tiers.
Not going to mention the Gallaint -- the tier VI British DD -- because have only played like two games in it. lel.

I have the vast majority of the premiums barring the CVs. I'm mostly a CA/CA and DD player but I've started dabbling in BBs and really like the Scharnhorst, Gulio Cesare and the Alabama.
If you want pants-on-your-head fun, get the Atlanta. She's challenging to play but when you have a decent game you are gonna be smiling ear-to-ear. When you have a great game you are going to be laughing out loud! Her nickname of the USS DakkaDakkaDakka is so true it hurts. Learn to abuse island cover and you will make life absolute hell for OpFor battleships. Enemy DD's will soil themselves the second they see you glance at them. Red-team CVs have been known to torp their own ship when they see an Atl on the green team. And any Cruiser that makes the mistake of closing with an Atlanta will quickly find out that those murderous little 5"/38's can rack-up citadels faster than the US Government can rack-up debt...
