Normally I would state that mounting Binocs and coated optics is a waste of an equipment slot. However I may have found an area where it is actually beneficial. Auto loading light tanks. In particular the Bulldog and the AMX Chaffee. Normally on these tanks I would run coated optics, vents, and vertical stabilizer. That has been my go to setup for the these tanks since day one. Unfortunately I hit a breaking point when I was outspotted by a moving TD a few days ago. At that point I decided to try something new. I removed the vents on both tanks and installed Binocs in their place. Now I know that the benefits of coated optics do not stack onto Binocs and vice versa but I've found that I can be a much more effective scout with this setup. I can move up and out spot most targets while moving, stop and spot even more. It gives me a nice safety net as I move torwards known engagement points. It really is the best of both worlds. It may not work for everyone but I'd highly recommend that you give it a try.

Thanks! The crew in my amx chaffee will appriciate this! I have them trained in every stealth perk but silent tracks. Now I just need to be a better scout.

I might have to try this but I generally don't like to stay still in my Lights long enough for Binocs to activate. Mine seem to get snapshoted the moment I get spotted if I do.

That's good for a passive scout, though i only try that with the AMX Chaffee, most other lights play like small mediums at high tiers anyway. I prefer optics, stabs and vents for that and try to spot, do damage and be spoted without taking damage.
It feels like the new camo perks killed off the passive scouts at high tiers.
I can't trust randoms with damage dealing anyway so i will have to seek and destroy even while playing light tanks.

I have stacked both on the T20 since Beta and I feel it is part of the perfect set up for that tank. I can often top a tier nine game with this setup due to assisted damage, especially if I can avoid stupid on my part. This set up is very suitable to my game play. Three MoE on this tank and some other good stats too. A lot of people seem to think their way is the only way (gotta have a gun rammer!!!) which doesn't allow for the diversity the game will allow. I have lost several head to heads because of no rammer, but those losses are far fewer than the wins I have due to teammates blasting the targets I spot.

I think that set up has been used by many players on light tanks for a while. With the lack of skill/effort on the green team I feel that spotting is almost as useless as armor. If no one shoots what you spot then it's all for nothing. If you are dedicated to bring a scout then you should go balls to the wall on view range.

Ah, but I am not a scout, I am a spotter. I bring a tank with excellent sniper ability. The long reload helps; I see you, you don't see me. I snipe you and I move. You still don't see me. A scout would not shoot. I still know where you are so by the time I reload, I have a new place from which to fire, if I choose. I may stay quiet for awhile. I do ok with this and a few other non conformist stuff. I get hate mail all the time about my "magic tracks" that don't come apart under fire. Oh well, heavy coils help with the paratrooper skill too.

Each to his own i guess, but sitting still in a medium is wrong imo, i have 3 MoEs on the T20 too. But with aggressive, mobile front scouting and peek-a-boom tactics. Imo there's only two really good equipment setups for mediums that can use stabilizers. Rammer, Stabs, Optics or vents.
