Let's see any tanks that you seen in your travels. I found this gem in Alabama yesterday. It's a Scorpion. My jaw dropped when I saw this awesome machine parked on the side of the road. So what sort of Tanks have you seen out there?

Great thread SD. I'm traveling this week and know of a few Legion Posts that have displays. I'll stop and get some photos. That Scorpion has got to be pretty rare though.

When I get back up north I'll take a few shots of the M60A1 in front of the Legion.

None in my hometown, but there's a Patton in the next town east of here, and there's a military vehicle museum in a town 35 miles west of here that has an E8 and an M60, as well as some artillery pieces and a couple Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

If any of you don't know what that Sherman is about. It's a tank that was found submerged off the coast of England at Slapton sands. It's a memorial for all of those who lost their lives during Operation Tiger. The Sherman coming from one of the ships that went under. Operation Tiger was of course the practice for the Americans for D-day. Specifically the ones landing on Utah beach. Over 30 thousand troops embarked in their assault craft with all the equipment that they would need to land on the coast of France, including tanks. In the early hours of April 28th 1944 this huge armada of assault ships and escort vessels were all milling around out at sea getting in position to start the Exercise when a Flotilla of E boats operating out of Cherbourg, under the command of Hans Shirren, got in amongst the allied ships and caused utter chaos. With the sea bombardment just starting the escort ships did not realize what was happening and opened fire on each other. In the resulting carnage ships were sunk, and nearly a thousand men lost their lives. The E boats got away scot-free and the next day the beaches were littered with dead bodies with more being brought in on every tide. More casualties were caused that night than actually happened when ‘Utah’ was stormed for real on D Day, and the whole thing was such a fiasco that it was all hushed up for years and many of the dead were buried in unmarked graves. This is the tank being pulled out of the sea in 1984.

That Scorpion looks awesome.
We have a M53/55 on 1 of the main roads near me (well, 30mins away). I don't have a pic handy but I always like driving past it.

Local gun shop has what I believe to be an M44 artillery sitting on its lot...I took a pic to post, but it's "too large" to upload and I'm too lazy to alter it.

Is it the long barrelled one or the short 8 inch? I would say the shorter. The barrel doesn't extend past the front of the hull. I could be wrong? Is there another way to tell?

The longer barreled one does go past the end of the hull so it is the 8 inch one. Which means it's an M55. M53 being the longer barreled one. Saying that actually makes me wonder why the M46 in-game isn't called the M46/M47 considering the upgraded turret is that of the M47. Probably due to the last gun upgrade I guess.

Oh I didn't eve realize that the barrel length determined which model it was. I thought it was just 1 was Army and other was Marines or something. Good info, thanks.
