I'm only 17 games in but win rate is 40%. I can't blame team mates, I'm just not doing as well as I should.
I had 100 games in the IS 8 on the way here and did OK, win rate 57%.
I'm running rammer, stabs and vents, 3 skill crew. Maybe I am being too aggressive? I feel it should be on the front line though due to gun handling and armour. I'm trying to side scrape where I can, but not making most of armour perhaps.
Any advice appreciated

I am no expert in the IS-7, as I put in 40ish battles before I sold it but I will give my observations on it. To me, it was a team dependent tank. It has great turret armor and decent hull armor IF you are able to hide the LFP. Sidescrape or hull down are your best friends. The gun is mediocre in my opinion, and a bit of a letdown after the final 122 on the IS-8. It is pretty quick as far as heavies go. The pen for the standard round is only 235(?) so don't be afraid to use some premium rounds.
Thats all i can tell you. I don't want to give any advice that goes counter to what others here who are far more experienced with this tank give you. Best of luck with it mate

Try being hulldown as much as possible, Its the best way to use the armor. If you can't hulldown, sidescrape but be careful. Back out only when most enemies have fired, as while relatively rare, Your shoulder plates(The place where the front pike plates meet the sides.)can be penetrated if exposed, Especially if your enemies are firing premium. If neither of the above are possible, Wiggle the hull, That may cause bounces off the lower plate or track shots.
Move with support when possible, The tank struggles when alone, Especially when one or more enemies engage at range. You probably found out by now the gun is close range.
And that's about all I can help with.
Also the gun's penetration is 270, but the handling is bad enough that premium spam might not be so bad to help alleviate it. Though I would do that at range mostly, Where it struggles the most. (This is mostly directed at El Materdor.)

My quick advice is to drop vents for a GLD.
I run rammer, vstabs, and gld, and it seems to work pretty well.

My IS7 has rammer / vstab / vents Large repair / large med / extra ration I carry 10 premium rounds. They are generally fired first because first contacts are usually bad ass heavies front on. I try getting to hull down but close to the enemy (50m or less) depending on map. Avoid jagE100, E3, 183, etc as IS7 is prone to be ammo racked and these TDs can one shot you. Armour can be troll, some games you bounce everything, others ypu get penned every hit. The accuracy of the gun is not great and aim time is pretty poor so get close and aim as besg you can. The alpha is pretty good ~ reds know they have been hit  Try staying in the fight firing as many rounds as possible ~ front line dishing out damage is priority so survivability is low. The IS7 has decent manouvrability so use it to punch through reds line or get hulldown and hold if you haven't got enough support. I often run out of ammo is another downside. |

I second pacman's recommendation of gld. In fact , all available equipments/skills/perks to improve the gun handling.

270 is the pen on the E-50M its also the highest pen of a medium or heavy with standard ammunition. |
