Having now gained some confidence in running Mediums solo I've started playing the T-54 more. The first time I tried it, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and being solo was punished for that.
But recently I've been getting some decent win rates in tier VIIs and realise much more about how to play Mediums.
As I mostly play solo it''s useful to know how to change the course of the battle in a Medium, and even though, it's not always possible I've found keeping the gun active, being a nuisance to Opfor, flanking and positioning to be vital and make the difference.
So I thought I'd try Tier IX again and what a blast. The T-54 is a joy to play. It seems to have only one major issue which is gun depression so I need to work out how to get round that.
So how do you play yours? What are the best strategies, tips and load-out? What skills should be trained and what should I watch out for? Any and all advice welcome as I'm sure it would be for others who drive this brilliant tank.
I've had a look at vids by the usual experts, most of which are for PC and if anyone has made one for the T54 on XB, please step forward.

I love my 54. I'm not great with it but I will offer what I have figured out about it. For equipment I have V Stabs, Rammer and as an experiment I'm trying Vents instead of Optics. My ammo loadout is 15 HEAT and 3 HE rounds for cap resets and the balance is standard APCR. I don't run Rations on it but some guys do and do quite well. Crew skills/perks are the normal 6th Sense, Repairs, BIA and also I have Camo, Smooth Ride and SnapShot. When I have Optics equipped I use the Recon perk.
I try to be semi cautious initially, especially when in mostly tier X games, but as the game goes along I get more aggressive. While the turret is good and will bounce shots, many tier X TD's can pen you so you have to move. It has great mobility and speed.
In end-game situations is where you can really wreck face. Don't be afraid to spam your 330 pen HEAT rounds. Much fun. It also is a SnapShot beast.

Additionally TKE is a good 54 driver. He can give you better advice than I can. It is a great carry tank no matter where it is, either top or bottom tier

HEAT HEAT and oh did I forget HEAT? THe standard ammo pen is lackluster even at tier 9 and at tier 10 it blows really bad. Although when firing HEAT (did I forget that before) it is about as nasty a tier 9 there is. It is my goto tank when I'm having a bad day - can't guarantee a win but normally domore than well enough in it.

First video is a bit dated since I used D-54 gun instead of the D-10. Basically passive scout, snipe and flank like a boss. Don't underestimate M46 Pattons they can and will hold their ground with you thanks to them having higher dpm. The E50...good god don't underestimate them specially now that they have had gun handling and dpm buffs. Otherwise you should be good to go against the other meds.
Heavy's(IX and X) can be problematic but you shouldn't be facing them face to face anyways. Only load up the HEAT if you have no other option or you really need to pen something. VIII and lower is a lolfest. Don't hesitate looking for hull down spots just remember you can be penned thanks to your turret hatches(difficult shot) so don't get too comfortable. Long range though you can sit and laugh while hull down since very few tanks will have the accuracy to hit your turrets weak spots. Pretty simple and fun tank just got to get use to the gun depression.

Well, despite what someone else might have mentioned, I'm average in mine. (Do appreciate the kind words, though! ) I run mine with rammer, vert stabs, and optics. Vents are a good choice, especially if you have BiA on your crew and run rations (which I do) but I tend to not use them. No idea why, either. Probably should due to the across-the-board boost. I run 16 HEAT, 2 HE, and the rest AP. If in a tier X game, I tend to load HEAT from the get go and spam it without apologies, though I am getting better about switching it out when shooting at softer targets. It can get REALLY expensive to run -- think I have made silver once in my 100whatever games in it. (Rations probably don't help, lol.) But it's my "smash the reds in the face" tank and I really want the 62A, and will most likely tone down the prem rounds once I get it. If I'm top tier and the reds don't have, say, a platoon of E-50s, I play mine really aggressive and try to get to key map positions. I keep it hulldown if possible and wiggle the hull between shots. It will bounce almost anything lower tier, and quite a few same-tier guns. The biggest issue I'm having with it is the fact I want to keep it, but don't have that many good Soviet crews -- have one with about 9 skills (in my Obj. 14), one with 7 (in the T-54) and one with three (in my LTTB). Have two others with one skill each. That's it. So...yeah. I'm going to have to plan that out somehow ...
