IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Just a heads up for some misconceptions.
Keep in mind guys that I'm not having that many issues with this tank, I just don't enjoy playing it.
The reason why I made this thread is because it clearly has no advantage over it's competition (that fact alone should be a code red for a buff), not because I can't handle it.
That's the reason why I'm proposing a buff.
Main Thread:
Accuracy is [edited], standard pen is [edited], APCR pen is [edited], armor is meh, mobility is no better than the Tiger 2 since it was buffed, gun depression and elevation values are absouletly disgusting.
Easily worse than every other tier 8 heavy, it has absoultely nothing over the others since the Tiger 2 mobility was buffed, so why does it even exist in this game?
I know it's supposed to be played like a support medium, I tried and it doesn't work out well. 38kph isn't fast enough and traverse speed is too slow, not to mention that it's a huge tank to begin with.
Also Good luck sniping with the very un-german accuracy of .37 and the 200 pen AP Shells, which is worse than every Tier 8 heavy but the T32's gun.
Basically what we have here is a tank that can only carry it's own weight in tier 8 games.
Tier 9 is still somewhat possible if you have good support, and tier 10 is nearly impossible with the lack of firepower and barely adequate mobility, combined with the poor APCR pen of only 244.
Other tier 8 heavies at least have something to make them work at tier 10, like the T32's turret, IS-3's and Tiger II's firepower + mobility, AMX 50 100's autoloader, etc.
Heck, I'll go as far as to say that even the Caernarvon is better because it at least has a decent gun and turret + gun depression.
I know that some people are going to say that it's perfectly fine.
(We all know that there's that one guy for every tank that loves it somehow no matter how awful the tank is, I like to call them the Tank Hipsters because they like to be unique, and I myself am one with the Lorraine)
However, I'm sure that the majority of us can agree that it needs a buff of some sort.

Agreed. It's crap. Tiger 2 made it irrelevant when it got the speed buff. The Tiger 1 is a better tier 8 than the VK A

Agreed. It's crap. Tiger 2 made it irrelevant when it got the speed buff. The Tiger 1 is a better tier 8 than the VK A True, even the Tiger 1 part  |

It's one of those tanks where my lack of ability shows through. You and I have faced off one on one before in random play (mediums if I recall) so you know my skills are a bit "slow". I only have the mid upgrade on the B so far...it's not so indestructible. Hopefully at the top package. |

I always found the VK B to have terrible side armour, i think this is one of the few heavies were you should just go front up at them, front plate is just as good as the maus' maybe even better and the lower plate is only pennable from shooting up or JG 420 HEAT. I don't have the VK B but it's what i've noticed from experience. These tanks are a pain in the ass even in a Tier X game, i find them more annoying then a maus. |

The 45.02A could use an armor buff, at least on the sides. The front upper plate and turret seemed pretty good as long as you were hull down. However trying to side scrape with this tank was, well...an exercise in futility. That being said the only reason I could think that the tank is in the tech tree is to get players used to the lack of gun depression on the 45.02B. But then again I don't work for WG so I could be way off.

Perfectly usable as it is IMO. The pen is fine. You can still pen anything you come across. You still get the Henschel turret which is fairly strong. It's no Tiger 2, but then again that's the point, it's not supposed to be a Tiger 2. Regardless of the Tiger mobility buff the VK A is still more mobile than it.
Just play it for what it is, a decent medium/heavy tank, instead of complaining that it's not a Tiger 2. In fact it's better at bullying lower tier tanks than the Tiger2 because the armour is sufficient when fighting those and it had the huge mobility gain on the Tiger 2.
Just my 2 cents.

My advice: Play with Centurions, Pershings, or other VK As. It's pretty bad on it's own, as it needs to get to flanks to do proper damage, but if you work with the slower mediums or the faster heavies, dropping 320 alpha on people, significantly more than the equal tier mediums, on their flanks means you can be much more dangerous than the other mediums with you. You can also tank significantly better than those mediums, having the expanded HP pool and somewhat better armor. Once you stop comparing it to the heavies, and start comparing it to the mediums, it begins to look a whole lot better.

Since the Tiger II buff its kind of a lack lustre tank by what everybody says. Ideally I think it should get a slight RoF buff, and slightly better mobility.
