I've been grinding for my second MoE on my 7/1 for a little while now and have been having limited success doing so. My problem has been not getting enough damage in before my team folds, or I make a stupid mistake and get erased. I've been running the 105mm L7A1 ever since I unlocked ages ago, and on a whim, I mounted the 20 pounder back on it to see how it performs. I honestly think I like the 20 pounder better. I've been able to do a lot more damage much more consistently than I could with the 105mm.
So, ladies and gentlemen of the forum, which gun do you prefer on your Centurion 7/1 and why?

I prefer the 105. The gun's Alpha makes it great for being a ridge poker. Mix this with the Pen and the speed of the APCR rounds make it the number one choice for me.

I preferred the L7, mainly due to the fact I can do my 390 alpha and get back behind cover, without having to constantly expose myself to make up for the alpha with the 20pdr, also the APCR velocity is nice and HESH is also funny when used against lightly armoured enemies.

I'm with the popular opinion here in prefering the 105. Granted, not so much ducking back into cover quickly, as I play a bit more of a support role and am not usually what the reds are looking at.

Maybe that's what my problem has been. I've been playing it to close to the front and keep getting focused on. That and after getting jumped by Russian mediums on a few occasions the lack of DPM had me wanting. Although I suppose that can all be mitigated by sticking with other friendlies.

I also prefer the 105...like deco, I play it in support and try to get to any map location that allows me to hill/ridge fight. My only WOT Devastator is with this tank/gun...cheers

I have never played the Centurion Mk. 7/1, nor do I ever intend to (I haven't even played the Cromwell and don't really enjoy the Cromwell B, which I'm training the crew to get Sixth Sense with first). However, if I had the option, I would most certainly go with the 105mm L7A1.
Personally, I almost always go for the better alpha gun on a tank. This is mainly because a lot of the time I find that DPM Is a bit.. well, for lack of a better term, mediocre to me. Sure, the reload of the 20pdr may be far greater, but just how often are you actually going to be able to put that to work? Sure, you can permatrack someone if you're lucky enough to be in that situation, or just laugh away the health of an enemy who just sits in the open exposing his full side to you and never moves, but in the long run, how often will that happen?
Alongside that, at Tier IX I wouldn't say people really fear trading hits if you only hit them for 230. If I can blast you for 390, retreat into cover and come out and blast you again in about roughly 8-9 Seconds, well, you've hit me for probably somewhere around 460 and I've hit you for 780. I mean, and this is probably just me, but 230 Alpha really isn't good at Tier IX. .x.

I haven't had the centurion 7/1 for long but I do prefer the 105 due to the alpha and hill fighting potential although I did like the 20pnd on it. I was able to do 6k damage once while using the 20pnd

I really enjoyed the 105 on my 7/1. That is definitely a tank I need to buy back. Like the 4202 though, I wish it was 10 km faster.

So after a weekend of flip flopping between the 20 pdr. and the 105, I think I'm just going to stick with the 105 like I was to begin with. It's much more reliable overall, often times I got into situations where to 20 pdr. could work, but the 105 would have just worked so much better.
I think I'm just getting burned out chasing my second mark on it. I was at 83.5% at the start of the weekend and have regressed to 79.5%. It's ridiculous the amount of damage it seems like I need to do to make progress. I think I'm just going to park it for a bit and come back to it. I was making some really dumb decisions chasing shots just trying to get damage.

Don't chase MoEs in the weekend, i got my second mark on the 7/1 with the 105 and i'm usually anywhere near the front line where i can peek a boom over hills. Just keep on playing it and you will get those 2-3 great games putting your damage standing over 85.

105 was alot better for me i didn't like relying on the 20 pdr in a tier X game i know it can do work but it gets me in alot more bad situations The Penetration and the Shell velocity on the 105 makes is nice, even though the DPM isn't that good. I go my second mark will gridning that tank almost had my 3rd but sold it.

Think I'll give it a whirl tonight and see if I can actually make a bit of progress and maybe just get back to playing it for fun. Grinding out an MoE has kind of sucked the fun out of it.

I know it's changing the tank type, but I was trying to get the second mark on the t67 last night. Started around 80.5, peaked at 83, and spent the rest of the night going between 82.15 and 82 .5...teams had me pulling my hair out...and derp m4s were out in full force last night...I got one shotted three times by m4s thinking I could take one hit (I had full/near full health each time) to finish them off. Ouch
