Used some campaign doubloons to buy an azur lane crate and got the AL Montpelier tier 7 cruiser. Apparently she's similar to Cleveland but I haven't gone up the US cruiser lines. Do you guys have any recommendations for ideal builds, commanders and playstyle please?

She’s the same ship as the Cleveland except she gets more he damage but a slightly longer reload. The best way to play it is to hide behind an island and rain he down on enemies. Usually closer to an area where destroyers like to lurk because it has radar. As far as perks it kinda depends on what you want. I’ve seen some run equilibrium of power but that cuts your fire damage. I personally use refill station to get an extra radar

Agree with Plucky. Do your best not to be caught in the open, you will become main target for most ships since you have weak armor and can deal a lot of fire damage.
Commander, Scott is usually the best unless you have some of the special ones. Bleeply is pretty good of those. Play around with inspirations between concealment and fire damage.
