That all started with this video here. The culture side of learning is something you kind of pick up as you make your crawl through the language. I also think I was inspired to do so by the majority of my favourite games coming from the land of the rising sun to fond childhood memories of Studio Ghibli films being broadcast on Film4 one time.

I much enjoyed learning how the meaning of two kanji (or more) came together to form words too, for example: 便 (べん be n) (Convenient) 所 (じょ jo) (place) together mean toilet! Another crude one I learned was 金玉. Gold and ball, meaning testicles. I guess in that sense they are highly valuable!

Apart from that I dabble in digital drawing, fitness, TV, cooking...

I can make a pretty mean Mac & Cheese and Lasagne if I say so myself.

I’m fairly certain that it will come as a surprise to very few that my primary hobby for the past 30+/- years has involved firearms in manner or another. I’ve amassed a decent working collection and do everything from sport shooting, teaching, pest control, and informal competition.

I’ve decided to try my hand at a new hobby after dithering about it for years. I am working towards getting my amateur radio license. As impetus, I specifically asked the Wife for a Christmas gift to push me towards my goal, so she’s getting me a Yaesu FT5D HT to start out with. I’ve been studying for the Technician exam and hope to schedule a test in January. I’ll start studying for the next step-up (General license) as soon as I pass the Tech test as it provides far more access to true “world band” frequencies.

It may seem odd that someone with hearing impairment as severe as mine enjoys radio as much as I do, but hobbies and entertainment don’t necessarily have to make sense. On a practical side, even when cell phone towers go down, amateur radios still work and I’m planning to join some of the emcom groups locally to help out if needed.

My hobbies are pretty simple, aside from playing lots of other vidya gaemz I've been taking Japanese courses through a state university, and watching some weeb shit.

Bought a new car not too long ago and my dad and I plan to go take road course driving lessons in the next year or so, I love driving and cars and it would be really cool to actually do it at a high level.
