Got a month of Xbox Game Pass for $1 and found some new games. Ended up buying Fishing Sim World. The locations in the game are modeled after real locations. The fishing is pretty easy to get a hang of, caught alot of Bass and Carp so far. Wife plays it too, we pass the controller back and forth after each catch. Making the quarantone fo by pretty easily so far.

Making the quarantone fo by pretty easily so far. I played a bit of that in January. It was a bunch of fun and beautiful locations. I documented some of my catches. gamerdvr.com/gamer/test777777/screenshots. Oh the most recent cap isn't fishing. I logged into WOTC recently, received a message saying I'd been performing well on the battlefield without having logged in for about 6 months so logged out again. I think they through a week or so of premium my way too. No idea why. Rest of caps are my attempts at capturing my fishing results. Back to the fishing Buggy as hell and the simulation elements don't seem to be there apart from the locations. I found it very difficult to determine consistency and working strategy for getting predators to strike for example or how the different price points for gear relate to a benefit or why there were so many rods/reels/lures. That were mostly identical. What I mean by that is I could practice with a rig and get a bucketload and then get nothing when tournament occurred with exactly the same setup with exactly the same weather and time of day at the same location. It seemed so hit and miss, as if the variables for what works changes each time a lake was loaded which makes practice a bit pointless. I mean to some extent fishing can be like that but from my experience, one gets used to what fish respond to, what conditions they feed in and what areas they respond well in. That hot cold thing doesn't really occur. The fish finder was next to useless on the boats. Trolling motor was cool though. Carp fishing basically was throw a bunch of rods in the water and catch fish faster than they can be reeled in. I didn't really understand the finer differences between the Rods and Reels and line types and even rigs. I get some of it from real life but it didn't seem to translate to the game. Overly complex number of options which really didn't need to be and I didn't recognise any of the brands either which is not a big Deal I suppose. I don't do a lot of real life fishing these days but Jarvis Walker, Shakespeare, Daiwa, Shimano and a few others are brands that I do recognised from Bluewater fishing when I was very active but they don't exist in the game. The weight of line didn't seem to matter nor the size of the hook or lure either except that if the line was light, chances are the fish would be lost if it was hooked. I'd expect lighter line = more bites and smaller hook meant smaller fish but in the end I just ended up going for the heaviest. It was a lot of fun for a bit. Even my youngest got in on the act.

The game does have a few bugs. My wide and I also joke about the weighs to size ratio of the fish. Small 1 pound bass look like 5 pounders.
I've only had some of the issues you are having with tournements. On Amature Bass I can go to the same locations each time and catch more than enough fish to win.
The Bass and Predators seem to go after the same lures, it almost seeks to be a time thing. I fished Boulder lake during the day and caught tons of Bass, fished it at night and caught only 6 Bass amoung the 28 fish I caught. It was finny rhat I caught a 9" fish on a 7" lure, like how did he swallow it?
The fish finder works fine for me. It will only tell you whats under the boat. I use it for when I'm looking for a spot around the lake. I watch how jany fish swim through an area in say a minute and also find my depth that I want to fish at. I can usually find a spot where I land a fish on each cast.
The only thing I didn't really like was how they sold it all in little peices. Got the game on sale for $16, two tackle DLCs for $6 each and the giant carp pack for $13 (also on sale). Why not just sell the whole game for $60 and include everything?
One other little detail, the sponsers you earn in the tournement give you money you never get to spend. Also you only earn TP points in the offline tounements, but on the career mode I haven't noticed if I get TP points for winning those.
As for the brands, I figure they just paid for extra advertising. As the guy who used to work Sporting Goods I noticed how little they told you about the lures and what they did. If you don't know any fisherman you don't have an idea what lure to buy for what fishing.
Now I atleast know what they will pick up in a video game. lol

Apparently different colours for different lighting. Not sure if that’s nonsense or not though irl or in game but might be worth investigating. I’m not exactly an ichthyologist but thought fish to be colourblind, more attracted to movement and profile but then again, plenty of colour light shows in mating I think for squid and cuttlefish. Most of my IRL fishing was baited rigs in the ocean or estuary so I am thin on RL knowledge. One thing I used to do when not getting a bite was Burley. That was mainly pollard and fish oil, sometimes stuffed into a cage. Spodding is similar I think but not sure if it works for anything but Carp and the base of spod mix is so foreign to me. What’s with Billie balls? Pine, nuts, coconut oil, cocoa, dates....sounds like some kind of vegan protein ball than fish food. It doesn’t seem to matter though carp is caught very easily. Catfish, I don’t know how to catch, I occasionally catch other predators to bass, pike, Zander or those real big bastards in the Amazon. No real consistency with pike or Zander though. Just happens when chasing Bass. There is definitely a difference between practice and offline tournament. Character level impacts fish hit rate though possibly in tournament and maybe not in practice . I’m level 45 or something, definitely become more difficult. I agree re the add on packs and DLC. Anyway, it can be fun.
