I've been reading about the XBOX series X Here which suggests a release date in November 2020 and I'm a bit confused as to the intended market. The same may be said about XBOX one S versus Xbox one X I suppose except one allows 4K gaming and one doesn't quite have the grunt for that. The series X specs haven't been finalised and Microsoft are aiming at fluid 60FPS 4K game play. I'm not sure of most TVs capability of processing 4K@60FPS fluidly but I suspect it's pushing the capability of many 4K tvs and input lag might become more of an issue or dropped frames. Sure there are 8K TVs on the market which have the bandwidth but I don't know anyone who owns one or thinking of getting one. High end Monitors though should be able to cope. With all of that said, everyone wants things to run faster and smoother than they already are and there's plenty of 4K games on XBOX which aren't as smooth as butter. The Witcher 3 for example with obvious transitions/texture loads. Some of that might be aleviated by SSD and more power, most of my games are running of cheap external portable USB3 storage. WotC @ 4K is limited to 30FPS but I don't think that's anything to do with console power. If I had a choice between the Xbox one X or XBOX series X based on what we know about it, I'd definitely go the latter but not sure I see value to me to upgrade from the XBOX X. MS are even saying VR isn't going to be available at release date but might be a year or so later. Anyone looking forward to it's release or thinking about buying? Do you think there's a good market for it or is it too early? The controller redesign looks nice and I wonder if it will work with current gen XBOX consoles.

One thing I am interested in is the *complete* backwards compatibility I've been hearing about it.
It's always been a pet peeve of mine how the Xbox One has to be restricted to a set list, and I still don't believe it has to be because they have the emulator there.
Besides the appeal of the DVR, backcompat was one of the main reasons I got the one.
If the stuff about the backwards compatibility is true for our series X, with a good games lineup at launch, you can bet your ass I'll buy it, my library would be at it's peak!

I'm done buying consoles. My Xbox still seems to do it for me, and I still play my 360 for the games that aren't backward compatible. I don't like the direction the game industry is going. I think I have some good games in my collection and I'm just gonna settle for those.

Marketing and Market Droids - not a fan. They promised backward compatibility with PS4 and XBONE prior to release. They failed to deliver in the way I interpreted it. With the series X I'm not sure that it would be really backward compatibility, as in take your old 360 disk out and pop it in and it will just fire up a 360 emulated UI and install. Technically, It might be possible to have an X360 or XBOX emulated environments I suppose and launch based on the disk being entered similar to how bluray player might launch but I can't see this happening unless it was something that was wanted to be done with the XBONE but it lacks the beef. I suspect architecturally, it's much the same as it's predecessor, just beefier. ie runs the same instructions as it's predecessor natively and has an extended instruction set and more memory which allows it to run at higher frame rates and higher resolutions, similar to XBOX one to XBOX one X. Physically it will look different and I'm looking forward to seeing it's UI. My gut suggests 360 or XBOX titles would need to be re-packaged by Microsoft and published digitally to be backward compatible and repurchased similar to how the Xbox One series does it now or the backward compatibility claim will be answered by requiring a subscription to something like Xcloud and titles will probably be limited by region and more than likely be available for the XBONE too. Certainly a decent upgrade for XBONE owners who don't care about Kinect and don't have HDR or 4K console but have a a quality HDR screen, it will provide a vastly superior experience.

I think I have some good games in my collection and I'm just gonna settle for those. The consoles tend to be more than just gaming consoles for me. Essentially an all in one, simple to use home entertainment centre. TV and movies, streaming or on disk or free to air, gaming, music and for presenting content from ipad/iphone when occassion requires. WWW browsing is cumbersome without a k/b and mouse but it does that too. It's pretty quick enough to startup and start using although I don't tend to power it off. Interestingly, my PS3 had this role over the XBOX 360 but my XBONEX has that role over the PS4Pro. Only reason for upgrading was my old consoles were dying and new content/functionality.
