Or any other carrier for that matter? I just got the Hermes for some weird currency and added a 10 point captain I had in reserve. Did a training room run to see how things work. What should I be focused on?

Grinding other ships... But seriously, it sounds like the british CV's are pretty gimmicky right now, and the whole shebang could change before next month so it probably wont matter that much what skills you take. The CV's will eventually be balanced to a decent spot, of that I am confident, bit until then I'll shoot down 35 or more midway planes in my Mass each game |

If you want to do reliable damage, use torps. The rockets suck for everything except resetting caps and the bombs are very unreliable. The torps have a very short arming distance so they are the best option for now.

Like Yurie said your torps are your primary damage plane but use the others for practice and to keep your plane count up.
I train my captains for survivabilty and accuracy over speed and damage.
