I went ahead and got it. Had all that free xp from exchanging my carriers. I read a few bits on the other forum and went for a hardhitting survival/ consealment build instead of AA. Also using my Wichita/Cleve captain (I got Halsey the other day) which has a more hardhitting survival/consealment spec than my other captain who is more AA. There might be a better way but I'm gonna try this out unless I see something better. Only played one game so far and I like it. Seems like a bigger Wichita. Even without upgraded AA I still wiped a squad of rocket planes out of the sky.

I want to point out when I say it feels like the Wichita I'm talking about the guns and sigma, not the actual manuverabilty of the ship. Manuverabilty wise I'm still getting used to, it feels more sluggish than your regular CA.

Like Stalingrad, Kronstadt and Moskva, it's not really a cruiser so much as a fast battlecruiser with smaller guns.
Think like a Graf Spee and you will do fine. These supercruisers devastate enemy cruisers and broadside BB's, but tend to take HUGE damage numbers from top tier BB's and Mushy unless you are heavily angled.
Although I recently wiped out a 3/4 health Montana in my Kronk at knife fighting ranged of 4km's, while taking less than 12,000 in return, I was unable to avoid beaching myself on a small island due to her sluggish maneuverability, and a Stalingrad coming around the island hit me for 68,000 on a full broadside and sunk me immediately after.
These ships (like Graf Spee) are feast or famine vessels. For each incredibly good game you have, you will have an incredibly poor game. They suffer if poorly positioned or with the slightest lapse of situational awareness, as they have too poor of handling to immediately react to a situation.

Took the plunge and paid money for her (don't judge me, saving the free xp for Azuma). She will take a while to master, bit a word of advice: if you are driving a cruiser, do not show broadside to Alaska, deletion is imminent. Under about 12km, even battleships will have huge chunks of hitpoints stripped away by those 12" super heavy shells.

I was planning on buying Exeter, but not with how she is currently. Right now she's a much squishier Furutaka, with better agility and a heal. Heal won't do much when you get deleted in 1-2 salvos.

I picked up the AK last night and played a whopping 2 games in her. Not bad at all. I like her better than the Kronk so far. I may grab the Exeter this weekend just for the heck of it. Hopefully I’ll play better than I did last night. I’m pretty sure the rest of the team thought I was either drunk or suffering some sort of aneurysm. Sadly, it wasn’t the former; happily it wasn’t the latter. I just managed to release my inner potato for an hour or so.

I feel like you almost need to ignore her HE. The alpha is too low and the odd accuracy really affects your ability to start fires. The AP is really strong, almost strong enough to forego HE altogether. I have a much, much easier time bbqing with Wichita.

The Exeter is ok. Not great, not bad, but very....generic. She reeaaalllyy needs the smoke to make her in the upper half of Mehbote, borderline goodbote. I'm somewhat disappointed in her accuracy and he HE, as previously mentioned, is sorely lacking. Her torps are good, but then again she is British after all. Her armor is made of wet cardboard, so you will get penned by seagull shit.

I thought about it. Finally ticked over 720,000 and tried to pick up Kronshtadt.
Realised Kronshtadt had been pulled to make room for Alaska.
Tried to get Alaska.
Realised Alaska was 1000000 free xp, not 750k.
Gave up and picked up Nelson instead. Another heavy cruiser with 9 305mm rifles though, sounds beastly. Not sure why WG are claiming it's "like nothing you've seen", since it sounds one hell of a lot like Kronshtadt, but American, even down to the gun calibre.
