Anyone like Twisted Metal? Twisted Metal 2 was probably my favorite of the series, followed by Twisted Metal Black.

Kingdoms of Amalur: the Reckoning. An RPG written by R.A. Salvatore. You will not want to stop playing it. Combat is easy to grasp but extremely rewarding. The memorable storyline is deeply engaging and there are an insane amount of random characters in the absolutely massive world to find and complete varied quests for. The animation is excellent, the armour, weapons and clothing badass, and the enemies are extremely awesome. The world is dynamic and vibrant, with incredibly detailed and varied landscapes. You can create hybrid characters of all varieties, and the game has interesting build options available, encouraging you to branch out your ability tree while not limiting the effectiveness of pure built characters. This game is an immediate classic, is almost impossible to find in hard copy, and will instantly become one of your favourite titles. I lost track of how many of his books I read over the years. Likewise - I was playing a fair bit of AD&D back in the 80s and had a tendancy to read a lot of AD&D novels. Icewind Dale Trilogy got me hooked on his writing style. I have most of his forgotten realms books on my bookshelf although I think I bought a few electronically. I also have a Star Wars novel. I never got into his other fantasy stuff though. Speaking of AD&D and video games - I of course bought the gold BOX which was riddled with mostly AD&D games, cost me a bit but it was full of the games which related to AD&D novels that I had read during the mid-late 80s, both Krynn and Faerun were heavily represented which were the worlds that I was more familiar with. I bought the 360K floppy disk version. Soooo many disks. No idea where my gold box collection ended up but it was probably thrown out some time ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_BoxThey may be considered bland by todays standards but I spent ridiculous amounts of hours playing them. They followed the AD&D 1st ed and maybe 2nd edition core rules and were officially licensed TSR products, mostly published by SSI and mostly CRPG related. Amongst them There was a seriously fun wargame among them called War of the Lance(set in the Dragonlance/Krynn based on Weiss and Hickmans novels) which even had a multiplayer mode to it. There's so many. In addition to that, The original Elite was one of my favourites and Frontier has faithfully reproduced a modern version in Elite Dangerous. I thoroughly loved most of the Microprose's simplified combat Sims, from f19 stealth fighter, f117 stealth bomber, M1 Tank Platoon, silent Service 1 and 2 and a bunch of others. The great thing about these games were the manuals which were almost a Janes reference book. Microsoft's 3X strategy games, Masters of Magic, Masters of Orion I loved very much Microsoft's Covert Action - the game style is sleuth/strategic I played "where in the world is "Carmen Sandiego" as well as "where in time is Carmen Sandiego" and loved those two, combining geography/history with sleuth and comical characters. I absolutely loved Decent Freespace and Descent Freespace 2 as well as Privateer and Privateer 2. These games I played on MSDOS on systems without USB. Who can forget MechWarrior 2 and the titles which followed it including MechWarrior 4 Mercanaries. The same flightstick that I used to play those games, I still use today thanks to the USB adaptor which I never thought i'd use. There have been so many underated games and i'm not sure if I've captured the essence of the topic properly since most of the games I've listed were considered blockbusters. If obscure and forgotten is a must, then Chaos league probably takes the cake. Clearly ripping off Games Workshop's IP but it's not a shoddy knockoff and I definitely prefer the game play to that of bloodbowl. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_LeagueThere's also this hardly known fighting game which I had on the XT - Tongue of the Fatman, I don't remember much about it except it was a progressively challenging 2D fighting game with a career mode with a bit of a story and some humour where the combatants were all sorts of alien species. and it kept me interested for a while. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue_of_the_Fatman.

Anybody play Combat Flight Simulator 1&2? The first one was focused on the European side of WW2 while the second was the war in the Pacific (carrier landings included).

I don't suppose there are any slightly weebier sorts that remember Zone of The Enders? Or it's sequel?
Very good space-mech fighting game made under the Hideo Kojima label, although it's likely we'll never see it again as the reception of the HD collections were poor...over framerates.
It had embarrassing voice acting at parts though.

Yep and 3 I think although I only remember ww2 combat. Preferred them to MS flight sim which was relatively boring. Also the original Aces over Europe and Aces over the pacific.

Yeah I saw 3 when I looked them up after this post. Seems to have flyable bombers to which is pretty cool. Indeed and very adjustable Realism settings too, iirc Before take off, one had to run through the pre flight procedures. I think I still have ms combat sim 3 somewhere. Played world of warplanes by any chance? Arcady and a simplified flight model but my flightstick works well with it and a lot of fun from memory. I played it some years back.

I haven't played World of Warplanes. It's probably been about 10 years since I played a flight game on pc. Might buy one now since I have a laptop. Probably gonna go for one of the Combat flight simulators

Earth Defence Force 2025.
If you are a fan of poorly translated japanese alien invasion arcade shooters its great.
It gained a cult following due to its outrageous weaponry and entertaining gameplay, while delivering some of the most hilariously bad voice acting you couldnt fathom in your wildest nightmares.
You fight Giant Insects, while the characters tell you about Giant Insects. A history of Giant Insects. The truth behind the Giant Insects. The Giant Insects sometimes win. Some weapons are good against Giant Insects, while some are not good against Giant Insects.

Some weapons are good against Giant Insects, while some are not good against Giant Insects. I would imagine, if you heard the term Giant insect one more time..... If it were Western of Course, we'd bring out the Giant insecticide and that'd be the end of the game. While not specifically that game, I must say, the dubbed English voice acting on most Natively Japanese video games can vary considerably and they don't always get it right. Having said that, There's some pretty decent English Voice Acting on some more recent titles. The latest Yakuzas and Metal Gear Solid V for example. Now I don't know if they are a good translation of the Japanese language versions or not but at least the voice acting is ok. While not spoken and while it doesn't mention Giant Insects repeatedly, MGSV does over mention Kojima Hideo. I'm not a huge Anime fan either but I tend to watch subbed over dubbed when I do. I have a friend who understands Japanese pretty well and he laughs just as much at the mis translations as he does at the jokes I don't get.

Wing Commander Truly a revolutionary game for its time. Miss that one as wellst. I didn’t play too many of the wing commander games and preferred privateer 1 and 2 which were spin offs but I do believe wing commander rekindled the space sim shooter Genre. I’m pretty sure I have Wing Commander 3 in my GOG collection and yeah, was a pretty amazing saga and decent games. Pity about the movie though. Lucasarts xwing and tie fighter and xwing v tie fighter were in the mix there too and due to limitations with 3D rendering, quite a few studios would produce titles with FMV. Im pretty sure mark Hamill is in number 3 of the Wing Commander series.

Hmmm...a few retro and current suggestions for both PC and console. Pharaoh -- Old PC city building game based in ancient Egypt. Very fun, and recommend getting some mods and maps (especially the Roadblock mode for workers). Can be ran on the most tater of PCs and is stoopit cheap on Steam. Ceasar is also good, but older and Paharoh's mechanics work better. Aven Colony -- PC or console (on Game Pass), another city builder, but story driven. Wife is not a gamer but played through it easily and really enjoyed it. Rime -- A game I cannot come close to recommending enough. I've played video games for 35+ years and NEVER has a game affected me emotionally the way the ending of this one did. It is short, the puzzles are pretty simple, and it is visually amazing. Just...get it. Today. Gris -- This. Game. Is. Pure. Art. Just...hoooooly shitballs IT IS SO PRETTY!!! And the story is...wowza. On PC or Switch for less than $20 iirc, and soooo worth it. Crimson Skies -- Fired this bad boy with my son a few weeks ago and we had a blast. Nice selection of planes, the story is cliche and trite but tolerable, and, as a plane and history guy, the backstory is kinda cool IMHO. Also too: I have found Game Pass to be worth every single bit of the ~$9 a month price. Tons of older games (need to revisit Toy Soldiers) and new games like Forza. (I'm currently addicted to Cities: Skylines, and am getting it for mah PC because ALL THE MODS! ) If you can, highly recommend it.

There's an old RTS called Nemesis of The Roman Empire that I love. I got it back in middle school at a Scholastic Book Fair. It's surprisingly well put together for a book fair game, and has some decent depth if you really dig into it. You can choose between 4 factions. It's part of the Celtic Kings franchise, and is set during the Punic Wars. It's currently available on Steam, and I got it for $2 or something a while back in a sale.
I even still have the OG disc and case from 15+ years ago.

Not really a forgotten game per se, but just an amazing one.
Battlefield 1942, especially with all the expansion packs and the Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons mod, so many hours spent slaughtering bots with Maus tanks

Ristar is a really fun platformer on the genesis and mega drive that was unfortunately a victim of a late release and perhaps unpopular protagonist design.
Some of the people that made Sonic the Hedgehog were involved on it, and if you're looking for a good older platformer I can wholeheartedly recommend this.

Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction. I still play that game, there are still a ton of players playing it usually, and they still do server resets regularly.
One of the best games of all time, probably still one of the most popular ever, and easily one of the most entertaining. The graphics are a little dated, but the mysic, sound and visual effects are ahead of its time without question.
For some serious nostalgia you can get Diablo 1 onlinw for free at a few places. I still have my original disk and I lplay it frequently.
