Had this black bear walking down the trail to my deer stand yesterday. Small male that should be hibernating by now. Never know what you'll see while you're in the deer stand.

Aww, snow on his bum. 😁 I just kept thinking, can bears climb trees?

This^^ Black bears are generally afraid of people and would rather run away than have a confrontation. They're also surprisingly good at climbing trees, much better than they look at first glance

Isn't it grizzly bears you have to be more wary of?

Isn't it grizzly bears you have to be more wary of? Yep, but they aren't as far East as I am. You have to head out Montana (two states over), Wyoming or Northern Idaho to find them in the lower 48 states (there may be a small population of them in Eastern Washington.
They aren't on the prowl for humans, but they are at the top of the food chain and it's best to give them all the room they need. I've salmon fished in Alaska and shared the river with them. I've actually had to lay down my pole with a salmon still on the line flopping on the shore as a bear wandered down to eat it (easy meal). As soon as he stripped it off my line I went back to fishing once the bear left.

I don't think I would've been so calm. I heard a sound a few times and wondered if you were using some kind of call to scare him away.

Yeah, I imagine they're more in the Pacific Northwest regions, I would love to see a bear up close, but not too close, heh

I heard a sound a few times and wondered if you were using some kind of call to scare him away. Well...I did have a gun given that I was deer hunting, but I wasn't overly worried. The noise was just the mic picking up the sound of my hunting clothes rustling. I was bundled up pretty well due to the temp that morning being 7F.

I was going to defend you and say Jester's time is coming, but now that your 'excuses' are '7F' and 'sitting motionless', I don't know. Lol. Sounds a little 'weak' to me. 😂 I see 32 degrees and well, that would be enough to make me not go sit in a deer stand for any length of time. 😁

It also helps to have really good hunting clothes.
