I don't follow politics and don't know much about Shapiro, but from what I've heard from him, I don't think he'd have the stomach for it. He seems to be more useful in media.

He's said himself he has no intention of running in 2020, as he didn't want to mess with Trump's 2020 run. If he was going to run at all it would probably be in 2024.

When she announced that she was stepping down, she said that, at a minimum, she would be working on Pres Trump's re-election campaign. She's retiring from the UN Ambassador role so that she can be with her kids before they get to college age (and take on a public speaking job to make serious $$ to both pay down her debt and start building a war chest). In ~2 years she will be ready to start getting her name back out there so that she can stay relevant until she's ready to run in 2024. They will find a different position for Pence (cabinet position) so that he can gracefully step aside to allow this to happen, and yet still stay relevant. He's a good balance to the oft-raucous Trump, but has brought the religious vote, important to conservatives in the US. With the additions of traditional conservatives like Kavanaugh and Gorsich to the Supreme Court, that won't be a shortcoming in the future for Trump (the religious vote was a problem area in 2016, thus the Pence choice). The shortcoming in 2020 will be the strong female vote. Trump has higher approval ratings now than he has seen in his term, to-date, and is higher in some of the minorities than any other Republican president since Reagan. Where he still lags is in the female voter demographic. Nikki Haley, who was popular as our governor in South Carolina, will help with that. Even the liberal New York papers / media outlets gave her much credit for the work she did as governor and for most of her work as UN Ambassador. Haley has been a strong voice for the US on the global stage, and has aligned with President Trump where needed, and told him to clam-up when necessary. |
