This may be a contentious post but is Port really that bad? In most polls, and forum posts, people just say 'burn it now'.
And yes those rail-tracks are very annoying and it's a strange mix of terrain but what else do you hate about it or indeed like about it.
There's a fair few different strategies for different tank styles and it is mainly a city map. There are maps I like less though and while Port can be annoying it can also be a good map to play especially if you get a decent team.
So if you hate it then why and if you like it then why?

I don't love it but I guess I don't loathe it, like some seem to. It is very unexciting, at times. Also, it seems really small. I dunno, I deal with it. I've had some great games on that map but at the same time, I still don't feel like I have a solid strategy on that map, regardless of tank class I am driving.

I don't hate, and I've had some good games on it. I like it better than Dragon Ridge.

My main peeve is the stupid train cars. They block movement and almost all shots but since they can be shot under they are more of a hindrance when coming from the north. Tanks to the south that are coming uphill at them can fire under the cars rather easily while the tanks to the north are helpless.

I hate port due to the way it flows and because generally THOSE FUCKING TRACKS, OH MY FUCKING CHRIST
Along with the ridiculous deadlocks the map breaks down in to as people are fighting on stupid corners.
I just hate this god-awful map and wish it was completely removed or at least reworked.

I think a big part of the problem is the fact that, like 60% of the map is worthless because of the train cars. Seriously, Try using the middle of the map and you might as well be camping the base. Has the same effect, by the time you can do anything, Its too late to salvage the game. So everyone just funnels into the sides and stares at eachother until attrition claims one side. Its boring.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I have always hated this map. The tracks kill mobility and the train cars screw-up fire lanes.

South Spawn has the clear terrain advantage, as long as the team isn't full of retards. The rail cars make it a pain in the ass to flank, and then there are all those damn railway tracks. It's not my least favorite map, but I rarely enjoy playing on it.

The sight lines are too few for non-turreted tanks. Little to no soft cover for lightly armored tanks to utilize and spot from. Too many obstacles in the way hindering the mobility of fast tanks and making slow tanks even slower. The map creates too many disadvantages which makes playing on it feel awful.

I like port. There hasn't been a map that I haven't eventually warmed up to -- given enough games played in enough situations (tank, spawn, scenario) in said map. The new maps are still a problem, but I don't dislike the maps, just dislike my inability to decide how to approach each one. That goes away though.

One thing that bugs me about this game is terrain / obstacles that a tank should be able to roll over with ease stopping my tank cold. Port is irritating because it is literally filled with these objects. Like what the shit man, I can roll through a house but this metal pole is invincible?!

I got hung up on a fucking wooden exterior stair case on Abbey. I knock down a Victorian house, but the stairs are too much. |
