I recorded some gameplay in my current highest tier non-premium ship. I know it's tier 3, but I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing right and wrong. Can you give me some critiques on how I played this match and what I did right versus wrong? What I've observed in hindsight: 1) I should have gone through the channel in the center of the map at the end instead of trying to go around the outside. 2) I will also say I didn't notice the cap timer until it was probably too late anyway as I was tunnel visioned on that Battleship at the end. Need to work on HUD awareness. 3) Also those torpedoes that hit my friendly destroyer might not have been the best idea.

A few thoughts as a cruiser main (57% win rate in the class, too): 1. STOP SHOOTING TORPS FROM THE SECOND LINE!!! Sweet fucking Jesus, dude -- each one of those volleys made me cringe. If there is a friendly between you and a red, don't let them loose. Honestly. Stahp. 2. At the 10ish minute mark, you should have switched to AP as the guy was full on broadside. Yes, you got the kill, but you could have done it in like two salvos. Ammo selection is the key to success in cruisers, so always go for AP on broadsided cruisers and even some BBs (just make sure to shoot at the superstructure, not the hull). (German DDs also have stupid powerful AP on their 150 mm guns you can choose from tier VI and up. But I digress.) 3. Never go around that side of Solomon Islands. Yes, if you spawn that way you want to defend it as you did at first, but once cleared, don't push as it takes too long to get back into the fight. Flex back instead to defend middle and your cap. 4. Those torps were terrible. Yes, I covered this already, but they were so bad they deserve to be mentioned twice. 5. Just like tanks, map awareness is key. The red who capped was shown to be near your cap earlier. That is when you should have either capped them, or headed back. Pay attention to last known position markers and react accordingly. Might watch again later to see if I notice anything else, but those are the big things that stood out.

Thank you, I'm very much a noob so anything helps.
I thought my torpedo use was questionable, but I guess I've just seen videos, and been in matches (granted it's low tiers), where people fling torpedoes out all the time from in front of and behind friendlies so I just did that *insert nervous laugh emoji*.
I'm trying to be aware of what I'm doing wrong before I get into the higher tiers so I don't make the mistakes into habits.

I didn't really have to watch the vid to know I would agree with what Major Englush posted. But I watched anyway and I still agree completely. Battle performance aside - I'd recommend making sure you have last known position turned on for the Minimap, make the mini map bigger (with the + key), and in Settings -> Controls set Alternative Interface Mode to Full. First some things you did well: - Checked the lineup to see what you were fighting. In higher tiers this will be even more useful to know if you have the potential to be radar'd, etc. - You didn't YOLO - You stayed well angled through *most* of the battle. - Using terrain to fire without being spotted. Some things to improve on = many will come with time/practice: - Proper leads - Map awareness. When you pushed around the flank, did you see the DD headed for your cap? - Knowing when to use AP or HE. In a DD it'll usually be HE (but AP against broadside is still good), non RN BBs will fire almost exclusively AP (unless WG nerfs AP pen on DDs)...but in a high tier cruiser it's the difference in a 3k HE volley, a 7k HE volley, or a 21k AP volley. An exception: using HE to force damage control or when you know damage control has just been used when AP might work better. - Don't be "so eager" to use your torps. Use them when you can, but don't show broadside to do it. In higher tier gameplay, a cruiser turning broadside like that telegraphs a torp launch and a good player will start turning away/in before they've even make it 1km. - Spread your HE around - you can only set a fire on a part of a ship you hit. Also, if you see shells shattering on belt armor - try for bow/stern or superstructure (superstructure AP is also very powerful). - Besides the possibility of a TK from second line torps, you can indirectly kill a friendly by removing their ability to maneuver to avoid incoming fire OR by forcing them to use DCP. - When friendly fire happens - apologize in chat. - Use strength in numbers. Toward the end - you could've had a 2v1 fight instead of two 1v1's.

You can also increase the size the map with the + key (and reduce it with the - key).

Aside from knowing not to yolo down the channels in the middle of the maps I know basically nothing about any of the maps in game. It makes it difficult to know what to do when I barely know how to use my ship, let alone put everything together into cohesive gameplay.
Obviously it's because I have very little experience, but it's frustrating coming from WoT where I've already learned all this and feeling like I'm always a detriment to the team since I have no clue what I'm doing.

Other than the torps and perhaps not rushing to the cap via the middle channel to reset, you actually did do well. Very well, in fact. Aiming is the hardest thing in this game, IMHO. I still have issues with ships coming or going at angles. Don't stress about that -- just takes time. Maps are the same -- just takes time. I think I might know of, like, two islands on two maps where I can park a US cruiser behind and lob shells with impunity. That's it, though. Otherwise I just kinda derp around to be honest.
