I didn't get to put it in the title cause I ran out of space, so I'll make it abundantly clear.
Yes this is going to contain heavy amounts of Spoilers
I am going to start off going on about reasons why the game is good that isn't in the spoiler area, but by far I'm going to be digging that whole deep so the fucks out there that are genuinely interested in getting it while not knowing everything that goes on before they even load up the menu. You've been warned so don't bitch to me later.
Hell the main reason I'm doing this thread is because I played through it and I was questioning whether I should just go rambling on about what makes it so good.
Now the Xenoblade series as far as I am aware has always been Nintendo only, with the original on the Wii, WiiU and 3DS. The second, X because calling it the second is too hard on the WiiU and the third, XC2 on the Switch.
I couldn't say entirely because I only watched through the first one and never played it myself but it plays more similar to the original than X. Both in the setting and how everything works, because that one tried to focus on a lot of MP assets that were useless and also had shit like gunblades, snipers and that kind of bullshit (Granted the fucking mechs were what sold me).
For the world building itself.
It takes place in the world of Alrest, with the gigantic World Tree in the centre of the Cloud Sea.
As it is told, Humans once lived with The Architect on the World Tree, but one day he cast them out to the Cloud Sea where for centuries they slowly died off because of how difficult it was to live there, so he took pity upon them and sent down the Titans. Humongous behemoths that people began to live on as the Titans themselves spent their long lives circling the tree itself.
Gotta admit, I found the idea of Bionis/Mechonis cool, but wasn't too big a fan and I bloody loved how huge Mira was on X but that also meant it was bloody huge and so quite a lot of it was just plains of enemies and whatnot.
The Titans are cool since it is quite sizeable and yet not too big that you feel like you're stuck walking from tiny little settlement A to tiny little settlement B.
There are 'Drivers' and 'Blades' in the world, an occupation if you will. Effectively what a Blade is is this kind of individual in what is called a Core Crystal which if someone has the resonance to awaken them, that person becomes their Driver.
Allowing the Driver to wield their weapon, y'know the Blade or maybe a Hammer or Scythe, while the Blade themselves supply said Driver with power, they do at times actually use their weapons themselves but really just in special combos or cutscenes.
Now the gameplay itself.
Basically the movement and all is the same, the single difference there is that sometimes pathways need to be opened once, or you have to frequently use field skills from the equipped Blades to allow you to traverse certain things like maybe a broken ladder or boulder.
Heart to Hearts are there with some being the only way to unlock a skill and others just being there just for the sake of it. Being usually visible on the map if they are available and otherwise possible to find out if you rest at an Inn.
Combat, and to some extent the Inns.
Fucking phenomenal is the way I'd put it for a JRPG game and especially of the Xenoblade series. I don't think it's ever had really 'good' combat and it has always been a bit less immersive than others and X was incredibly bad with how reliable it was.
I went into one fight on my first playthrough underlevelled and managed it no problem, went it again when I played through the game again and actually had one character get downed despite knowing it was coming and preparing in advance.
That isn't the case with XC2, it's fantastic how much control you can have on a fight now and you actually have to be knowledgeable of the combos and everything which is very easy to do because the game makes it abundantly clear how to get into using them.
You can't fully control your allies, the extent to what you can do is have them focus down one enemy in the group and they will tend to try to help you progressing combos, but best of all is that they don't keep fucking aggro'ing the level 81 roaming Tyrant in the starting region.
Now Inns.
You beat enemies, quests, whatever and you get XP so you can farm up, dandy. But you also get bonus XP that you can use up when resting at an Inn to then level up a whole bunch at once.
There's no worry about one character ending up underlevelled by a huge amount because the game will give you the Bonus XP to catch them up so you aren't Lvl 50 and the game gives you a Lvl 19 scrub that you need to max affinity to progress the story like fucking X.
Yeah I can really rant on about bad points of X can't I.
Other points I can make but wont go into huge detail.
The 'main' characters are great, the ones that constantly return, some of the sidequest chaps are cool too but you don't stick with them obviously.
One or two of the Blades you can get are annoying as fuck as far as I see them, but the ones that you actually have to truly invest in aren't annoying.
The biggest grief with them is that the English voices are up to typical Xenoblade standards, I can get behind most of them especially since like half the fucking cast is Scottish/Welsh and boy are those accents beautiful, but the main character himself I'm pretty sure they just flipped a coin to decide between a genuinely good actor that could do the role and the janitor's kid, and the kid won.
The music is goddamn fucking phenomenal. The two that they used for E3 trailers 'Counterattack' and 'Incoming' are the definition of hype music and you can be sat there at 2fuckingAM getting genuinely hyped up to beat some anime prick's head in.
I will link them but if you're still one of the chaps really invested in going in blind, should you decide to have a listen then don't for the love of god go into the comments.
