Drunk driver kills somebody, they blame the driver A guy with a bomb kills a bunch of people, the blame the bomber Kill someone with a gun, you blame the gun? It's not about passing blame. It's not about taking away guns from responsible gun owners. It's not about taking away the right to bear arms. It is about changing culture in this country that thinks it needs to be all or nothing with guns. It's about responsible gun ownership. It is about common sense. It is about getting rid of the glorification of guns that has plagued our society. It needs to stop. We need to have open, fact based conversation about what is happening. When we don't allow government agencies to do research on how gun related deaths are effecting our lives, that is a problem. When our legislators are being bought out and silenced or given scripts by the NRA, that is a problem. All these barriers to knowledge and facts are slowing this process of a solution. It's not all or nothing. We have a constitutional right to bear arms, but that doesn't mean we can't expect some level of responsibility to go along with it. Or at least explore it.

“Fact based conversation”.
Something tells me your side lacks the key word there: Facts.

- But the NRA has blood on it's hands and buys all the politicians... "It's not about taking away guns from responsible gun owners. It's not about taking away the right to bear arms."- But they want to ban/confiscate semi-auto rifles such as the AR-15, which is the most popular rifle in America and only accounts for roughly 300~ deaths a year in a population of 320+ MILLION... The glorification of guns typically comes from Hollywood, which coincidentally is one of the biggest anti-gun group of people. Gun violence won't affect your life unless you : Plan on committing suicide or are a member of a street gang. Because well over 2/3's of all firearm-related deaths fall into those two categories. "Not about Passing blame" A few sentences later.... "When our legislators are being bought out and silenced or given scripts by the NRA, that is a problem." The NRA is one of the only organizations actively teaching gun safety. I don't see Everytown having classes on how to safely handle firearms, or teaching kids what to do if they see a firearm laying around. You claim to want a fact-based discussion on firearms, but every time it comes up.... You fail.

It's not all or nothing. We have a constitutional right to bear arms, but that doesn't mean we can't expect some level of responsibility to go along with it. Or at least explore it. It is about passing blame. If those 17 kids killed were run over by the suspect in a car as they were standing outside for the fire drill instead of shot, the discussion over these deaths would of already stopped and the news would go back to anti trump. The politicians don't care about kids being killed unless it's by someone with a gun. There are several million responsible gun owners in this country, but less punish them because others who are not responsible commit crimes. Change the culture that glorifies killing and guns? I hope you don't mind guns being removed from video games and movies amongst other things, because they are a part of the gun glorifying culture. Might want to erase from history books every war ever fought as well, because of glorifying weapons and violence. IIRC it's been shown the NRA does not give a lot of legislators money. But laws are effective. Like the one that was broken a week ago when 2 local ( Westerville OH) cops were gunned down by a felon who was not legally allowed to own a gun, but he had one anyways because a friend sold it to him knowing he was not allowed to have it. As far as the govt researching the issue, do you expect honest research from govt appointed legislators who would be biased for or against an issue. There is a lot of gun laws on the books, but they are rarely enforced as they should be. When you can have inmate felons brag to deputies and detectives about the guns they own, and not get any additional charges then you have problems.

Yeah, facts really deflate any argument you may have. Sucks, huh? My point exactly. I think the facts are discusting. You don't. 33K people dying at the hands of people using firearms in a country with the population of 320+ Million... 0.01% of the population was lost due to firearms. 1.3% of all deaths every year are by firearms. You'll notice these numbers INCLUDE suicides. If you only include murders, the percentage drops to 0.44% of all the recorded deaths in a single year. You are advocating removing the rights of millions of others, virtually all of whom are not responsible for these deaths, based on 0.44%. So far, your only "solution" is to "Do something...". That's it. But guns are the problem... How about dealing with these fucking psychos before they shoot up a school or other public place? Like, I don't know, maybe have the FBI actually do their jobs when they get multiple tips on a possible school shooter, or 'homegrown' terrorist? Nah, fam, lets just try and restrict the rights of people who have done nothing wrong. Yeah, that'll work.

I've stayed away from this thread on purpose, but I just have one simple question (with a follow on question).
Why not ban illegal immigrants who commit rape and murder? Why not the same fervor as those foaming at the mouth to ban guns?
Serious question.
Carry on.

Generally speaking the hope for democrats is if they can get all the illegals legalized, the recently legalized illegals will vote democrat instead of independent or republican. Democrats really don't care if illegals rape, murder, kill people in drunk driving accidents, overwhelm our hospital system, molest children as long as they keep their votes ( if made legal, which they are desperate to do)

Contrary to the lies parroted by the NAACP, the NRA is the oldest civil rights organization in the US. Pretending like they're some evil boogeyman is laughable

Well the NRA was formed in 1871 with “the primary goal of the association would be to ‘promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis.’” Really depends how you define promoting and encouraging. Depending on what was said in its literature during that timeframe it may of stated talking about rights of gun owners.

NAD was 1880 Earliest I'm aware of the NRA actually lobbying was 1872 (founded 1871).

None, but I don't see how that's particularly relevant to anything.

Wow, the ability of paleocons to randomly drag any discussion round to the topic of immigration never fails to astound. You should write for the Mail. You certainly got triggered from such a simple question, asked out of legit conversation. So, no discussion because you have, once again, proven that you have ZERO lateral thinking skills or ability to look at underlying behaviors and evaluate for parallel thought process and root causes or look for conflicting lines of thinking, and anything that doesn't fit inside your narrow bandwidth just deserves an insult. I guess writing blogs about the world from reading you've done in mom's basement, with no experience, makes you smarter than literally every other person in the world. By the way, the manner in which you used "paleocon" proves that you: 1. Have no real clue what that means. I thought you figured out I was a Thatcherite? Or Reaganite? Or neocon? I lose track of your attempts to classify me and others. 2. Keep trying (and failing miserably) to use "big words" in an attempt to appear more intelligent than you are (friendly advice: people with high IQ and extensive and legit hands-on, real world experience will see right through this behavior) 3. Resort to insults every time someone states something you disagree with or asks a question you can't answer from a one-liner in a book. Using insults and attempted belittlements to shut down discussion is often recognized as a dictatorial or fascist tool. That's ironic, no? I will say it again....university will destroy you. It's going to be a major eye-opening experience for you. One I hope you embrace and from which you mature. Unless you end up at Snowflake or Echo Chamber U, where they never tell you you're wrong and just give you a trophy for reading the "Big Word of a Today" calendar. Now, run along and formulate your anti-everything-you-don't-like response full of incorrect concepts and big words you don't really understand. I'm more interested in seeing if Yankees or any of my other Bunker friends would like to continue an ADULT discussion, as I am legitimately interested in the friendly, educated conversation.

It's not all or nothing. We have a constitutional right to bear arms, but that doesn't mean we can't expect some level of responsibility to go along with it. Or at least explore it. That’s rich….”When our legislators are being bought out and silenced or given scripts by the NRA”. You are aware that the Dairy Association spends over double what the NRA does on lobbying and political activity? Additionally, Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List, Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters (tree huggers), American Federation of Teachers and Service Employees International Union all make the NRA look like spendthrifts when it comes to political money and lobbying….who’s bought out? ??
“All these barriers to knowledge and facts are slowing this process of a solution”….you mean like the “18 school shootings in 2018” fact that MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Time, MSN, the BBC, the New York Daily News and HuffPost parroted almost immediately after the shooting took place. The same knowledge and fact that was repeated by Bernie Sanders, Cher, Deblasio and others on Twitter. One small problem…it’s a bullshit fact put out by anti-gun Michael Bloomberg funded Everytown for Gun Safety. The very first “school shooting” that took place in 2018 was Jan. 3, a 31-year-old man who had parked outside a Michigan elementary school called police to say he was armed and suicidal. Several hours later, he killed himself. The fucking school had been closed for seven months. There were no teachers. There were no students. But hey, let's label it as a school shooting
How about these other pesky facts they count that go into their school shooting narrative- Jan. 20, when at 1 a.m. a man was shot at a sorority event on the campus of Wake Forest University. A week later, as a basketball game was being played at a Michigan high school, someone fired several rounds from a gun in the parking lot. No one was injured, and it was past 8 p.m., well after classes had ended for the day, but Everytown still labeled it a school shooting. The anti-gun cabal is certainly allowed to have their own opinion, but not their own facts. Edit- I forgot about the police officer who accidentally discharged his gun...they counted that as a school shooting too Tell me this….if this is such a critical issue…why didn’t the Democrats pass any gun law they wanted when they controlled the Presidency, Congress and held a filibuster proof majority in the Senate (same goes for immigration)??
