You ignore it because you have nothing to counter it with. But it's ok, I expect that from you. Money should not be forced from private companies to fill the massive gaps that the government created out of it's own fiscal irresponsibility. Just saying that "being left-wing is for angsty teenagers" (paraphrasing, obviously) is not an argument and isn't worthy of being countered. If it walks like a duck...

What, the people that work for Amazon should be grateful that they work in conditions that refuse to let them have toilet breaks, and that have resulted in mental health issues, in order that they can prevent themselves from falling into destitution and pauperism? Cool. Being paid just enough to get by is not "substantial benefits". Isn't the average salary at Amazon $60K?.... Granted 'pickers' in the warehouses make around $30K, plus benefits... Still that's hardly being left out to starve. Citations would be nice for your claims, by the way. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/amazon-workers-working-hours-weeks-conditions-targets-online-shopping-delivery-a8079111.html"Amazon workers working 55-hour weeks and so exhausted by targets they 'fall asleep standing up'" www.theguardian.com/money/2018/jan/20/amazon-worker-warehouse"The Amazon worker: paid £18,000 a year to shift 250 items an hour" www.ethicalconsumer.org/companystories.aspx?CompanyId=15312&CategoryId=421"OSHA said Amazon workers were exposed to "risk factors including stress from repeated bending at the waist and repeated exertions, and standing during entire shifts up to 10 hours, four days a week and sometimes including mandatory overtime shifts." www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25034598"A BBC investigation into a UK-based Amazon warehouse has found conditions that a stress expert said could cause "mental and physical illness". Prof Michael Marmot was shown secret filming of night shifts involving up to 11 miles of walking - where an undercover worker was expected to collect orders every 33 seconds. He said: "The characteristics of this type of job, the evidence shows increased risk of mental illness and physical illness."" www.rt.com/uk/411105-amazon-workers-conditions-retail/"Amazon workers treated like ‘animals’ in exhausting working conditions, reporter reveals" www.gmb.org.uk/newsroom/amazon-results-robots"AMAZON POSTS BLOCKBUSTER RESULTS AS WORKERS REPORT BEING TREATED LIKE ROBOTS IN ‘HELLISH’ CONDITIONS , Global giant must address working conditions after reports of warehouse workers peeing in bottles and facing a culture like ‘prison’." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/amazon-workers-in-scotland-are-still-not-paid-real-living-wage-s2d03z92s"Amazon workers in Scotland are still not paid real living wage" www.complex.com/life/2018/04/amazon-denies-employees-have-to-pee-in-bottles-over-pressure-to-meet-quotas"An ex-Amazon worker alleges disturbing details about the reality of working at one of the company’s warehouses in the UK. According to the Sun, fulfillment workers reportedly pee into bottles instead of using the bathroom, due to Amazon’s intense pressure for them to meet quotas." www.wsws.org/en/articles/2018/03/19/amaz-m19.html"Amazon workers in Spain’s capital, Madrid, are set to strike on Wednesday and Thursday against planned cuts to pay and reduced allowances for overtime. Oh no, people have to work hard in a warehouse...
The horror.
It's like they had no idea working for one of the largest, highest-volume distributors in the world, would actually mean they have to....... You know, work hard.
I hope they knew they made the decision to take the job, and weren't just plucked off the street at gun point and told to work in the factories "Or else".

Mental illness, physical injuries and being forced to piss into a bottle to avoid being penalised far fall from the remit of "hard work" and should not be required simply to get by in life.

I hear McDonalds is hiring. If they can't handle working in a warehouse atmosphere, seek life elsewhere. Someone else will gladly take your spot.

They knew they were going to work in a warehouse for Amazon, a multi-billion dollar company. Cry me a river.

That is all that need be said. It is the erosion of workers' rights under the present neoliberal system that is responsible, it is possible to reverse this.

Look, workers' rights are a whole other kettle of fish, but regarding Amazon's particular situation, it would cost them barely anything to improve conditions, and do them a great deal good in positive press, besides the fact that they at least have a moral duty to treat their employees like human beings. It isn't impossible.

It isn't impossible. They pay them well and provide benefits for their services. That's all they are required to do. The point is that you want Amazon to be forced to pay 'their fair share' to the community based solely on the reasoning that 'they can afford to do so'.

Today on "I don't know how socialism works". Anyway, whatever, as to the article, I can't really see much wrong. "The Seattle City Council on Monday approved a pared-down version of the “head tax” on the metro area’s largest employers to fund efforts to battle homelessness despite public criticism from local businesses, including e-commerce giant Amazon."So, to begin with this is "to fund efforts to battle homelessness". I would hope that is universally regarded as a good thing to be doing. Other than that, all it says is "despite public criticism from local businesses including e-commerce giant Amazon". So essentially this is being opposed only by a bunch of rich bourgeois businessmen, including Amazon, a company owned by Jeff Bezos, a man who is "worth" 132.4 billion dollars and yet cannot afford to give his own employees decent working conditions. If you're basing whether or not something is good based simply on the fact that a massive multi-billion dollar corporation doesn't like it, then you might want to rethink it. Sure. Completely ignore the fact that the govt should be re-prioritizing existing spending instead of just defaulting to adding yet another tax on productive people. But being responsible and thoughtful is never an option when you can pass the burden back on to the productive citizens, right?

I just don't feel any pity for Amazon in being taxed, that's all.

Unfortunately you also miss the point, given that (predictably) I'm approaching this from a socialist standpoint. Capital is just a meaningless social construct. The resources exist to help people, put them to use, don't leave them sitting around in a Swiss bank account for a man already "worth" more than 99% of the human race to make even more money off it and just go on and use to make even more money, and then use that money to make even more money than that, (repeat ad nauseam). You can never make "Enough" Money, Money talks and the more you got the more control you have. I mean Just look at the Jews. Are you fucking serious? ? Get that weakass bullshit out of here!

You seem to think a business or individual should not be able to earn more than what the bare minimum to survive, the rest should be given to the govt to " redistribute" ( keep for themselves).
