The M51 seems to be the best of the HMH tanks. Do you own one? If so, what do you think of it? The post buff M4 Rev, which is very similar to the M51, enjoys a good rep on PC even with them having premiums at tier 8 that are very strong like the Patriot and Skorpion. By rights it should be great on console, our TDs not having the nerfs that PC do might mean it isn't though.

R35T...I have the tank. It plays very similarly to the STA-1/STA-2 in that it has similar speeds, traverse, gun depression, mobility, armor dependability (it isn't), etc. The biggest difference is that it exchanges RoF and shell pen for alpha and shell velocity. It simply does not have the RoF to easily survive a brawling situation whereas a tank like the STA-2 has a sub 6 second reload that would possibly allow it to survive a brawl even though it won't block any shots.
That said, the M51 alpha is impressive and punches hard, and the std APCR round is amazingly fast which makes long shots very easy to make. I haven't really had other than a couple instances outside of an encounter with a T10 Japanese heavy where I felt entirely helpless due to having only 250mm of HEAT pen. This is a big advantage of the STA-2, along with it only seeing T9s.
It also has the same 50% silver bonus that the STA-2 has so it makes damn good silver. I enjoy the tank and the support and flanking play style so I would recommend the tank.

I had enough for this bad boy after I splurged and got the grill and the waffle e100. This was a nice juicy bonus. In my second battle i ended up cleaning up 5 guys, a T28, Motherland, a Hammer, a T21, and a AMX 12t. Those HEAT rounds came in handy and really saved the day! I did 3k damage, and got almost 100k in silver in return! This match made my day! I will add that I used my 5 skill batchat crew for this.

While I quetion myself at times as to why I had to have the grill and waffle, I was atleast smart enough to buy this. It eases pain and frustration from getting the hang of the other two while replenishing my silver despite the drain of the waffle an grill. I have other premium shermans, the E4, and the Fury, this one is and easy favorite!!!! Love that gun!

The other Shermans are good but suffer due to the low alpha and high rate of fire meaning they have to stay exposed to keep doing the damage, that isn't an issue looking at the M51 at least.

I did forget about the Boilermaker, it takes an easy 2nd to the M-51.

I am struggling with this tank. Just can't seem to get consistently good games in it. Alternate between 1500-2000 damage and 400-800 damage games. Took me 30 games to finish the Ace Op, 33% Win Rate, 1200 WN8... Just not performing as well as I'd like, lagging behind many of my other tier 8's. (110 Games in the Pershing with 2050 WN8, 125 games in Cent 1 with 2115 WN8 and 23 games in the STA-2 with 2270 WN8) Some of it has been very poor teams over the weekend, very easy to die in a hurry when the Reds rush you because they're not afraid of bouncing on your armor and your support is potatoes. Some of it is me just being to aggressive and putting myself in bad situations out of frustration... At least i made a buttload of silver grinding on it!

Once you get a few skills trained up on your crew you will see it shine. I had a 5 skill crew sitting in my Batchat, and since I don't use that unless I'in the mood so I train my crew more and make silver. Also there aren't many French premiums. You have that german arty, FCM 50T, Libert'e (FCM 50T reskin in flag colors), the pak40 tank destroyer, and the french Chaffee dual trainer. I have the arty and the Libert'e and the chaffee this one is definitely my favorite out of all of them!

I was using my AMX 12T crew, 6th Sense and Camo trained. Not really a great Medium Crew, but I doubt that was the biggest factor in my poor performance. My first game was an acceptable 1800 damage with no equipment, or supplies (whoops, didn't mean to launch). Then I had a bad stretch of poor games, should have called it quits. Ended the first 20 with 900 Average Damage. Just kept putting myself in the wrong positions. Brought that up to 1200 in the next ten games, played the next day after a good long break...

Try to play it very similarly to your STA-2, e.g. no armor but good gun depression, but remember you're trading alpha for RoF and the STA-2's stupid 275mm of HEAT pen and better std AP pen.
I've not set the world on fire with it yet (highest game was 4.4k/5 kills in a T9 battle), but I have had some other good games with plenty of stinkers (which I would have had in the STA-2 as well due to poor teams). Remember to keep your distance to mid-distance support or further back, and relocate/tactical retreat if it seems at all like your flank or position is going to get run over.

My best game so far was just under 3000 damage with 4 kills, in a loss of course. I've been able to have a few respectable games, but there is very little margin for error with this machine. I'm going to give it a break until this damn On Track to the Grille is over... Sticking to tiers 3-6 for a bit, just sick of being pulled up to tier 9 with 3-6 Waffle Jr's in each team. Will revisit this tank then and try to continue to improve in it. Hopefully it's not one of those tanks that I just can't get a grip on...
