So for a while R35T and I have been considering adding a guest section to potentially increase activity around here.
What this means is that members who haven't registered, for whatever reason, could now post (but ONLY in the designated area, nowhere else).
Now we do have concerns about doing this and that's why it's taken so long for us to go through with it. We're obviously concerned about the potential of trolling. Thankfully if that did happen at least it would be confined to one area, if need be we will assign extra moderators, voted for by you guys obviously. If it ends up being a complete fail and troll fest we would just remove the section and go back to how things are now. If all goes well we would keep the section.
So we were wondering where to put the section, there's two options really, in the off topic section or in the general area. My thought originally was to put it in off topic, however I feel like putting it in general would be better. It would be more welcoming to potential guests that they are not just tucked away at the bottom of the forum and it may encourage them to post actual game discussion, rather than random stuff. With that said we're putting it to a vote so you guys can decide.
Also feel free to post your thoughts on this.
Edit: I just realised that the community section could work also, I can't edit the poll though, so if you think that would be a better choice just post that choice.

Off topic, guests are not worthy of hospitality lol

Off topic, guests are not worthy of hospitality lol Lol, I'm thinking that that's what will get the most votes anyway. There will probably be members that are against the idea entirely, so if off topic is chosen, that's where it will be going regardless of my thoughts.

I chose "General Area" becuase if we're actually going to have a guest section, it should be easier to access. I think it would get lost and forgotten in the Other section.

think the moderation around here can stand up to trolling, besides it's not like were a bunch of delicate types around here anyway

I think it would get lost and forgotten in the Other section. ^ Also I think the issue with trolling is going to be much less about someone actually being attacked and rather it occurring possibly turning off new members or, as Violet said, TCC violations inadvertently being hosted by "us". Obviously if the server owner doesn't like what's on their servers (not even just forum-hosters, this happens on self-owned websites too), then they're going to not react well to it. I've seen a burgeoning online community completely brought down by trollish assholes who were partly Nazis and trolls anyway, and doubled down on Nazi, swastika etc shitposting when they found out the servers were hosted in Germany. Needless to say, the plug was pulled and not by the site owner.

How about the section that deals with guides and whatnot? People coming to visit for the first time are more than likely looking for information on a certain tank, or a map strategy, and opening those up to guests could make them more inclined to sign up.

I have already added the guest section, in the general area, for now. Guests can already view the knowledge section, and pretty much the rest of the forum, they just can't post in those areas. Now there is an area for them to post if they want to.

That's actually a really good idea lol, why did we not think of this sooner?
