I've been running some light tanks lately. I found this WOT video on view range while researching how to git good. Any light tanker should at least watch the video between 2:00-4:00min. It explains the "checkpoints" on your tank that that are used for spotting and being spotted. I always thought that your gun needed to be pointing at an area to detect a target. The "checkpoint" on your gun mantlet only needs to be exposed over a ridge or around a corner to detect an enemy.
