I currently have a Rammer, GLD, & Vents installed but I keep getting tagged by unseen TDs and other tanks. My question is should I replace something with Coated Optics and if so which piece of equipment should I give up? NM. Got my advice.

Personally I'd swap the GLD for Vert Stabs as I was usually on the move in that thing and the GLD only works when stationary.
How are you being targeted by the TD's, do you go places alone or are you first into known TD firing lines? I think even if you did use optics then the TD's would outspot you anyway as they're probably using Bino's.

I'd go with rammer, vert stabs and vents also. The other tier 7 heavies tend to have a better reload than the T29 so bringing that gap down as much as possible is a good idea. Try and avoid large open areas unless hull down, and even then try not expose your tank unless nearly ready to fire. You simply aren't going to outspot a TD like a Borsig due to its camo and view range.

I swapped the GLD for v.stabs based on conversation in the shoutbox last night.
The getting spotted thing doesn't happen all the time but I got taken out a couple of times back to back last night so it had me wondering if there was something I could do to counter it.
Once I was moving across a ridgeline with no option to use the military crest of the hill. I never saw what hit me. My sixth sense was still lit due to some of what I was trying to flank. Just one of those things...
The other time I was engaging some Reds in a built up area when suddenly I was dead from a TD on a hill that I never saw. Again sixth sense was being lit up regularly as I would move forward to fire.
It all falls under the category of Shit Happens but I just wanted to make sure that there was nothing from an equipment standpoint that I could do to improve my odds of knowing when I've been spotted.

That doesn't sound like a equipment issue, it's just a experience thing.
It takes time to figure out where, what and when to do things. You're still below 2000 games and you will see the patterns after some time, like where TD's set up, where they usually aim and when it's somewhat safe to move.
It's not something that happens fast and i know i was way past 5000 games when the pieces started to fit together just a little bit.
In time you will start taking cover from one direction while fighting tanks from another one, you might not even notice that you're doing that, it just happens.
For the equipment questions, Rammer, Vert Stabs and Vents/Gld

It's just frustrating when it happens.

Check out the Knowledge Center. There is a fantastic map guide in there. For equipment: rammer, vents, and vertical stabilizer.

Check out the Knowledge Center. There is a fantastic map guide in there. For equipment: rammer, vents, and vertical stabilizer. I have the guide JustanAce created and it helps a lot regarding general tactics for the maps. I refer to it often at the beginning of a match. I'm to the point now where I'm trying to remember which hill gives me the best view of which rock on any given map and that sort of thing. I cut my teeth on military topos but even if I had maps with that level of detail there isn't really time in a match to use them. I'll get there but it's frustrating sometimes. I look at my stats and they're creeping along, 2 steps forward, 1 step back on a good day. Just opposite on a bad day and most of the time the bad days seem to be winning. With regard to the equipment, I've already made the switch from the GLD to V.Stab. All of you, Thanks for the replies.

Just adding some stuff.
Adjust your playstyle to tier and enemy line up, you can be way more aggressive while top tier than if there's big guns around.
There are times you should just follow higher tier heavies around and support them as much as possible. Then there are games where you can cause the red team to panic a bit by pushing through. Use dead tanks as hull down positions if there's no cover around and you're not that far from the red tank just face hug.

This is the easiest tank ever to play. Find a rock, dead tank, hill, dip in the ground, slight incline. Poke your turret over the top and camp the rest of the game. Nothing short of a tier 9 with APCR will penetrate your turret, and your gun is powerful for a tier 7. Even just being a distraction is helpful for your team and you will block ludicrous amounts of damage.
I sold this tank, waaaaay too boring.

I tend to play the T29 a lot like my Jumbo when I'm lower Tier. As often as not that results in my getting taken out by the Reds after they've decimated the Green higher tier Heavies.

Yep, I'm sure there are a number of tanks that are "easy" once you get enough experience under your belt. But thanks for the words of encouragement. Camping anywhere typically means I'm destined to get flanked or rushed by multiple Reds later in the game but I do rack up a bit of XP first.

You will see a lot of t29 drivers refuse to give up a good spot no matter what. If xp is your friend, don't get cocky, remember to cover your hull at every opportunity and angle slightly if you can't, it may allow a lucky bounce. The T29 is a formidable tank, I just get bored of the "hulldown, hold position" type of thing.

Some great advice here already. Just keep in mind you're always going to get out spotted.... by just about everything driving around. I like the rammer, vents and tool box. When top tier it's full speed ahead, when bottom tier I do what has been suggested already and play a supporting roll along side top tier heavies.

My T29 has become my favorite tank. If someone with stats as bad as mine can be called a "stat padder" then I guess I am because since I've been running the T29 more often than not, my stats have started the slow climb out of the red. Learning how to play the T29 has helped me be able to put into play some of the tactics I've read and watched videos about. It can absorb enough punishment that I actually have time to adapt or change my angle when setting up side scraping or going hull down and things like that. I've found I can learn a lot more while still actually in the game than I can while ghosting other players.

Rammer, Vents, V-Stab. Might could argue optics over V-stab...maybe?
NEVER, EVER pick GLD over V-stab.

It doesn't even need equipment. just hull down and laugh. Run enhanced suspension for the lols.
