I suck when I platoon. I just don't do nearly as well as when I play solo. A few of you have platooned with me. Any tips or tricks you want to throw my way? Here is an example. The day I was solidly in the green was almost 100% platooned, while the time in the blue was me running solo. i.imgur.com/ng58BEr.pngWhat gives?

I'm the same, that's why I don't platoon anymore.
I feel like, for me at least, it's a combination of things. Firstly there's less damage to go around (especially if you're platooning with players better than yourself). Also I feel under a lot mote pressure in a platoon. I don't want to let everyone down by sucking, which just makes me suck more.

When platooned and in similar tanks, there is certainly a desire to help each other out, even if it sometimes means pushing your tank a bit more than you should. Given you run lights a lot, it might be that you're pushing too far ahead in an effort to spot for your mates ... ? I know I'll tend to do that. When I run solo (which isn't often, actually) I am much, much more passive. Of course, I suck no matter if platooned or running solo, so ...

It's caused me to leave clans, not join clans I was interested in joining and neglecting people from my own clan & friends list. What's really strange is that I can platoon without using chat fairly well, but as soon as I'm in chat then I can't concentrate.
I've been considering trying out "no chat/com's" platooning and possibly setting my clan up with that in mind. I just didn't think it would be well received on the main forum. I reckon it's possible to platoon quite effectively just using the in-game command wheel.

^ no chat is just weird. There's nothing wrong with 'playing alone, together' style platooning.
Don't stress out about being successful in a platoon. Just have fun. Work on supporting your platoon mates, and getting support from your platoon mates, as you go along. No pressure.

It's probably to do with my circumstance as well as being in party chat encourages me to rage and that leads to my kids getting woken up and that leads to more hassle for me!
Either that, or I'm really unsociable.

That is why I don't platoon. Where I play in relation to where my son sleeps makes it difficult to talk on the headset. I know that may sound stupid or strange, but it is true.

Well I can understand that. I platooned once with someone from live forums who really wanted to team up for a while....he had no mic. Do you have any idea how awkward it is taking to someone you've never spoken to and hearing only silence in return for a couple matches?

It's sometimes like that for me, putting too much pressure on myself or just platooning when i really should not play at all.
I can just focus on my own performance while playing solo and there's less competition for damage.
When platooning works it's just more fun than being a lonewolf but it really depends on my mood.

I platooned with Jester the other day and couldn't break 2.5k dmg with my E-100 and got a green WN8. Went back on later solo and did 5k+ nearly every game for the short while i was on and bumped it upto purple. Some of us are just more comfortable lone wolfing it.

The benefits of platooning with me:
1) no matter how bad you do, I always do worse, so you don't seem as bad as you think.
2) you can hide behind the smouldering wreckage of my tank and use it to shield your weak spots. This also gives me the benefit of believing I contributed.
3) I can, very rarely, be unintentionally funny.

In response to RJD's points above: 1) Bollocks, you are pretty good, unless in a jageroo 2) Yep, although most other players are normally dead already, or are arty-guarding heavy potatoes, who have their own potato camping skills to save them 3) Tis true, will have to platoon again, when the Canadian interwebs restarts

Yep, same. I do far better solo than in a platoon. I think it is because of the number of solo games. I am so used to not relying on my teammates and being, well, selfish that I end up being much less careful in a platoon. But you already knew that. Lol.
