Apparently Black Lives Matter is a thing that Britain needs now. Which confuses me, because according to this...
www.inquest.org.uk/statistics/deaths-in-police-custody
...there have been 1563 deaths at the hands of the police in England and Wales. In the last twenty six years. Of which 156 were people from ethnic minorities. Which is roughly ten percent of the total number of deaths. In the last census, 87.17% of Britons were of the "White British" ethnicity, leaving about 13% of Britons belonging to what would be classified as "ethnic minorities".
So, in case you hadn't noticed, this is just silly. I'm not trying to stir up racial tensions here, but there just isn't a massive crisis, as the British supporters of this movement call it, of black people being killed in the UK by police. Apparently the number of black people in prison is disproportionate, but that isn't actually what Black Lives Matter is about anyway and I highly doubt that there is much evidence that that disproportionate number is solely down to the deep-seated discrimination that, apparently, is inherent in, it seems, just "the law" in general.
If people want to protest about this problem, then they should feel free to. Just do it in a way that will make people like you and support you and understand you. Don't try to cause pointless chaos. Blocking the sliproad to Heathrow Airport is a fucking stupid thing to do, since you just piss people off. Blocking the trams in Nottingham is a stupid thing to do, you just piss people off. Pissing people off gets you nowhere, when you're just pissing off random commuters. Go and piss off the people "responsible", because that's what protesting is about.
This isn't something Britain needs (I'm not entirely sure it's something America needs either, but I don't really know about that), so leave it out. Go and protest properly, without annoying ordinary, decent people. Britain is a country that, for some time, has been known for being tolerant, of course there has been racism, there always will be, that's just how life is, people are idiots, but we're a traditionally tolerant society, there isn't a deep-seated racism issue.
Also, the police will protect your right to protest. (And you can leave out the whole snarky "don't shoot me" shit, the police don't even carry guns.) But when you're also guilty of obstructing roads, causing unnecessary disruption and hindering the general public, don't be surprised when you're arrested. That isn't unfair, you broke the law, you get arrested, don't argue with that.
If you want to discuss it, do be civil.
