It sounds like people either sue or go for therapy for everything in the US. yeah pretty much I was told in the military I wasn't allowed to do first aid on civs in the states but in Germany it was allowed. different laws and standards Different states have variations of good samiritan( sp?) laws meant to protect people giving first aid.

They high-fived each other? Jesus christ. Don't take it as a 'We just murdered this guy! Yay for us!'. In their state-of-mind they just survived being rammed by a fleeing suspect's car during a vehicle pursuit, shooting at the suspect and then catching him after a short foot pursuit. The adrenaline rush at that moment is nearly indescribable. However, John Q. Public views it as them shooting someone and congratulating each other.

Jester,
You said, "The most glaring issue - The Officer that fired the fatal shots did not activate his camera. I believe he will burn for that, civilly and probably legally, as will the department."
He was also the driver of the car that was ran into head on. Then climbed, more like flopped over, a fence. (The other officer couldn't even climb it.) To me it would seem possible his camera could have malfunctioned or have inadvertently been switched off. Unless it was off the whole time, doesn't seem likely he would switched it off during the pursuit?
I think the passenger and driver of the first vehicle are the ones in the biggest trouble. The passenger strafed gunshots as the car went by hitting the hood of his own car and nearly his partner, like you said. Then both of them fired twords other on coming officers.

Fitness levels of the officers in the video aren't great. Training doesn't seem great either, shooting multiple live rounds down a residential street whilst nearly shooting his own partner too... In general i couldn't believe what i saw when watching that vid. No disrespect to the US police at large, merely saying some of the officers in that vid seemed a bit worse for wear in a few regards.
Never before seen an officer get stopped by a wooden plank gate either.

Jester, You said, "The most glaring issue - The Officer that fired the fatal shots did not activate his camera. I believe he will burn for that, civilly and probably legally, as will the department." He was also the driver of the car that was ran into head on. The AXON cameras they use are supposed to hold up to those kinds of things. When you activate the camera, it stores a certain amount of time prior to the activation and records until you turn it off. If he activated his camera at all, there should be video up to the point he jumped the fence. Our policy for our body cameras states that during ANY law enforcement action we are required to turn them on and leave them on until the scene is cleared, as long as it is safe to do so. Which allows us to not fall victim to violating the policy if we are suddenly attacked and activating the camera during the assault is not practical. That Officer's department will probably string him up if he didn't turn on his camera at all. He opened himself up to criminal and civil liabilities by not activating it. Lets say, for example, he had turned it on and it shows him rounding the corner of that house and the suspect was kicking in the door to gain entry into that residence. It would show him shouting orders 'Show me your hands', 'Get down on the ground', etc. etc. If the suspect continues to make forceful entry into a residence that may be occupied, that Officer would be legally justified in shooting the suspect under the 'Fleeing Felon' rule, after taking everything into consideration. There would be minor boo-hooing and it would fall off the national radar fairly quickly. However, it seems he did not turn his camera on and will face the repercussions.

But you are correct that there's a chunk of our profession that could use some cardio training, at least. Shooting at the fleeing vehicle as it sped off down the street is a no-no. Especially when you are firing one-handed, over the hood of your vehicle while your partner is across from you.

If there is a suspect on the other side wouldn't it be better to just boot it down if it can't be climbed?Or does causing damage to property result in a shit ton of paperwork?
