I got the rentals with my first tokens! You get these tokens by playing a submarine battle then you get a 1 in 7 chance of getting them when you use your token. Lucky me! Or lucky me? I've only played 2 games in each. I'm getting the ping thing and launching torps, It's just a pain in the butt. I've yet to make a hit. I can land pings but I need more practice with the torps. I think you can ping other subs but I think it's only at a certain depth. I find the gameplay very boring. Can't see much. The battery thing can be recharged underwater at 1/4 speed but that doesn't make you invincible. I still got killed by depth charges. Maneuverability is very limited, even in the russian one. Here's what they look like. Here's how I trained my captains, not many options there. I'm gonna play with them more but I'm not too thrilled about them. They don't seem to be major game changers. I feel nore useless than I did in a CV. Instead of being a fancy spotter plane I'm a slow ass sub that can barely shoot torps and usually just floats around til I die. It's only been 6 games but we'll see if it changes.

I got some rentals for 21 days, but I may not be trying them out. We will see. The idea interested me at first, but the Homing torpedo thing just breaks my interest.

I strongly suggest you try them out. I find them a pain in the ass to play, even with homing torps. They will definitly even the field for CVs. DDs will alao be more important. They're very slow and boring to play, even with homing torps. After the first day I haven't played as a sub and only play sub mode for the daily coin for 500 coal.

Sounds like some riveting gameplay haha. Maybe I will for shits and giggles.

Very first kick at the can here. I was surprised how fast you can move underwater, the diving and surfacing mechanic is easy enough, including a consumable that crash dives to max depth. The sonar Pinging was a bit to get used to, but I managed to hit the enemy sub with both pings. Close range torpedoing isn't much of a thing with no target indicator, and hitting pings before your torpedoes go past the target can be a bit of a event, but I hit the QE with a torp at less than 3km's.
They actually seem like they could be fun to play!

After a few more games I can see some peoples frustration with them. You need to be almost pointed directly at the enemy target to fire your torps, even with the pings, to have any real hope of hitting something. Turning is abysmal at lower speeds which you need to be at to recharge your batteries.
They do home in with one ping, but its much less than the 2 does. Its almost impossible to double ping a bow on target as well from what I've seen. If you are in a sub and you get double pinged, its very, VERY difficult to avoid being hit by a torpedo. You have to crash dive and turn as hard as you can at max speed. If you turn too late you die, if you turn too early you die.
They have been decently fun for me, but with such short range on the torps(your only weapon) and having to turn the sub fully around to get your tubes on target to fire, it can make for a challenge to properly line up a target. If someone comes out behind an island 5km's from you and you are broadside, it will take a while for you to turn enough to get your fore or aft torpedo launchers to be lined up enough that your torps will actually head towards the enemy. If you double ping a close target and fire your torps when you arent somewhat lined up to the enemy they will just shoot off into the ocean harmlessly.
Energy only recharges at 1/4 speed or if you are at periscope/surfaced depth, and pinging takes energy, so energy management is paramount. Sailing submerged also costs energy, so you can't spend too much time submerged or you won't be able to really effectively use your weapons.

So you can turn your stern towards them and fire too. It's definitely different, I can see myself going down one of the lines in the future. I definitely like that they give CVs something to worry about.
