I currently only have 1 premium tank - the Panther 88. I do like the tank quite a bit, but it doesn't seem to be a great silver earner or crew trainer (I assume that's why it's the cheapest T8 prem). Anywho, I 'need' another premium tank. As of now I only own USA, Russian, and German tanks - I might branch out to British and French at a later date...but not anytime soon.
Here are my thoughts:
- JT88 - from the Tiger and P88 I know I like the gun, and the increased ROF would be icing on the cake and I know it makes tons of silver. BUT...it's slow and kind of pricey. I'm kind of mad at myself for not buying it while it was on sale.
- FCM 50t - looks like a great tank...but also kind of expensive and I really don't have a need for a French prem tank at this time.
- SU-122-44 - looks like maybe the best T7 medium tank in the game? I thought about the SU-100y, but it would be hard to justify (what appears to be) a turretless KV-2.
- Ram II - Appears to be the only mid-tier US premium tank. I know the lower tier US prems would make better crew trainers...but I absolutely hate low tier games. I should probably have bought the Super Pershing during the sale...but I'm still not convinced I'd love it.
Of all these, it seems like the SU-122-44 might be the way to go - but maybe I've left out a great alternative. Advice?
Parting note - for German and Russian crews, I absolutely will buy the T-34-88 if/when it is sold again.

SU-100Y is my favorite tier 6. .37 dispersion, 2.9s aim time my reload is at 13.29, ammo pen 194/171/60 corresponding damage rolls 440/510/580 . Stalin guides your shells to the enemy with precision

Also, you're forgetting the IS-6, which is a good premium tank , don't have to angle the armor all that much and you DONT need to shoot only premium like people say, brawl and aim all you be fine, it's alpha keeps people, especially pubs away. T-34- Good money maker and decent crew trainer, never needs premium rounds since is has a TD 120mm gun with 248 pen, premium even higher. It's really a mid package T30 that sees tier 6

I didn't forget the IS-6, I'm just not much a brawler. Probably because I don't have any tanks suited for that...but still.
I think for Russian I'm between SU-100Y, SU-122-44, and Churchill III.
For USA I'm thinking Ram II.

Just last week I made 180,000+ silver in one game, with only a 30k op reward in it. If you can, I'd wait until the 3.0 update. I've got a feeling some new premium tanks could be coming as they keep telling us "it's a big one".

Of the ones I have ... The Ram II is kinda crap, to be honest -- same gun as the T14, but doesn't get preferential MM, meaning you have to spam the snot out of premium in it unless top tier (and even then if the reds have a lot of KV-1s). Because of that, it's a decent crew trainer but not much of a silver maker. The Church III is okay, but it's slow and non-n00bs know to shoot it in the turret. Also requires premium rounds in some cases, but the ROF is amazing (do NOT run a rammer, as it will reload before it's even aimed) and it only sees tier VI, making it better at making silver. IIRC, it also gets a crew training bonus not found in other Vs. The SU-122-44 is a great tank, though it can be ... temperamental at times. The low pen on the gun (175 std, only 217 with prem) is an issue, as the thing will see tier IXs. When it behaves it's amazing. When it doesn't, it's frustrating (had back to back 0 damage games in mine this weekend for the first time ever, including one in which I bounced all 6 shots I took ). The 8.8 makes buckets of silver due to the low shell cost and bonus, but other than that there isn't much to like. Sure, you can get hull down when top tier and bounce shots for days, but it's ssssoooooooo slllloooooooowww. If a red gets behind you, you're pretty much screwed. I got mine when I had been playing for the game for just about 4 months and my stats have never recovered. Actually wish I had bought the IS-6 instead. (Which I now have and really enjoy.) Some others you might want to consider depending on what you want: For crew training, the lower tiers can really good. For the Germans you have the T-15 at tier III, which is a great little scout for the tier, with really good view range for tier V battles. The T-25 is also not a bad little tank, even if it's the bastard stepchild thanks to the V/IV. For the Soviets, I suggest picking up a T-127 if it comes on sale again, as it's just troll as all holy hell and only sees tier IV. I'd also suggest the SU-76i, but I doubt we'll see it again -- the thing is brokenly OP, but trains crews like a freaking champ (I average about 2.5-3% per battle progression in it). Americans are a bit thin on low-tier, tech-tree tanks. The T11E6-X is absurdly fun and OP as ballz, but we'll never see it again. The T2 Light is a blast to play and does great training crews -- it is, however, the only tier II that sees tier IV, so know that going in. (You literally can do nothing in those games but spot.) BUT ... all that being typed ... if I had to suggest one premium tank -- and only one premium tank -- that's simple: E-25Imagine if an ELC and a StuG had a baby, and this is it. The thing makes good silver and does a good job training crews. Also sees tier VIIIs max, has a cloaking device, and is easily one of the most fun tanks in the game—get 3-5 of them together and the reds don't stand a chance thanks to the LOL rate of fire. Yes, you do have to carry some premium rounds (I carry half and half) but even when I shoot all 30 APCR I still make money.

Thanks TKE. E25 has been on my wish list since day 1. It's ammo capacity that scares me with it, though...

Thanks TKE. E25 has been on my wish list since day 1. It's ammo capacity that scares me with it, though... I have yet to run out of ammo in it. Came close once -- had one shell left -- but it's not that common of an occurrence. The gun is pretty damn accurate, so you don't waste a ton of shots. The Locust, on the other hand ... Think I've run dry at least four times in that little sucker.

Oh...that makes me feel better. How wide of a gun traverse/arc does the E25 have without moving hull? And same question of SU-122-44

I can't get to tanks.gg right now, so not sure on exact stats. Sorry. Want to say the 122 has a bit more, but neither has a lot. They both turn really fast, though -- a T-21 thought he could circle my 122. He couldn't.

Yeah...I wasn't looking for 'specifics'. More like...is it closer to Flakbus with bottom 88 (awesome) for Flakbus with top 88 (trash).

(Been so damn long since I played the Doom Toaster, kinda hard to remember. ) They are very similar, and neither is stupid narrow or anything (ala the Flack Bus with the top 88).

Just checked, and the specifics will give you an idea: Gun traverse 122-44: 8 degrees either side E-25: 12 degrees either side (so 50% better) Flack Bus: 24 degrees with bottom two guns; 5 degrees with top 88. So, yeah -- the 122 is a lot narrower than I thought.

Did some looking - last night. The Churchill III looks like it might be ok. Super slow...but looks like a decent (and super fast firing) gun.
I think I'm more confused now than ever.
Maybe I'll wait to see if I can actually get this 'motherland' tank and then go from there.

JT-88 - When the best thing anyone can say about a tier VIII premium is "It makes tons of credits" You know it's a kinda shit tank. That said it's a stupidly easy tank to play, front towards the enemies and hull-down if can, simply out dpm them if you can't.
FCM 50 t - One of the best tier VIII mediums in the game, and it gets preferential MM because reasons. Gun handling isn't great but it gets the job done. Unlike some of the other tier VIII premiums this one actually requires some effort though. Only real downside is the price.
SU-122-44 - Its a tier VIII medium disguised as a tier VII TD and easily one of the best values in the game. OP as balls once you get a decent crew, Game breakingly OP once you get a great crew. Only downside is the lack of a turret.
Ram II - One of the better tier V mediums, pen is a little low but the gold rounds make up for it. Armor is troll bordering on decent but tier V is filled with gold spamming shitlords so don't expect it to hold up. Gun handling is disappointing.

How did folks get the Ram free? They did a promotion intended for new players where they could get a free Ram II, with some premium time and equipment IIRC. However, instead of the download for this package being available only to those under a certain number of battles, they accidentally made it available for anyone to download. I already had the Ram II (beta reward tank), so when I downloaded the pack, I received the premium time, as well as the gold value of the Ram II and the equipment, which let me buy the SU-76I for free.

As for your original question OP, I have quite a lot of premium tanks, so I'd ask what style of play do you like?
For instance, if you're primarily a light/medium driver, I wouldn't recommend the Jagdtiger 88, even though it shits silver. If you like slow TDs, then I would.
So OP, what style of play do you like?
