Guide to the Tiger 2, German tier 8 heavy tank
Overview
Overview
The Tiger 2 is a tier 8 heavy tank that is suited to multiple roles on the battlefield. It has better armour than the Tiger 1 before it, a reliable gun and good mobility. When top tier it can play on the frontline and when bottom tier it fills the support role well due to its fairly accurate gun and 400m view range. Typically it is wise to initially play support and wear down enemies with the gun, then in the later stages of the game, switch to a more frontline role and mop up enemies. It has a top speed of 38kph and reaches it without too much difficulty, so it is able to move around the battlefield easily for a heavy and can be at the places it is needed most.
With 1600hp, it has a decent amount of hp and can take a bit of a beating from lower tier tanks before getting knocked out, however against tier X TDs, it will be taken out with 2 shots, or 1 shot if an FV215b 183 shoots it, so don't get overconfident, Tiger tanks were not invincible in real life, and they certainly aren't in game either. In this guide, i will cover the statistics of the various parts of the tank and add gameplay tips. All the following stats are for the fully upgraded Tiger 2. To put it simply, if your Tiger 2 isn't fully upgraded, it's going to be worse in nearly every regard other than hull armour so bear that in mind.

Armour
Turret:
Front: 185mm with around 190mm effective armour
Side: 80mm with around 90mm on average effective armour
Rear: 80mm with 86mm effective armour
Hull:
Frontal upper plate: 150mm with around 235mm effective armour
Frontal lower plate: 100m with around 138mm effective armour
Side: 80mm with 85mm effective armour
Rear: 80mm with around 87mm effective armour
The Tiger 2s lower plate is a large weakspot, even lower tier tanks can pen it and this often leads to the tank being set on fire. The upper frontal armour is sufficient against tier 6,7 and some tier 8 tanks with a bit of angling, however if they load premium shells plenty of tanks can cut through. Against higher tier opponents the frontal armour quickly becomes worthless. The same situation applies to the turret. The tanks side hull armour is thick enough for sidescraping to be effective, however any shots aimed directly at the side armour from enemy tanks that manage to flank the Tiger will cut through with ease, and shots to the side of the tank just below the turret can detonate the ammo rack.
It's very important to hide the lower plate when engaging enemies or when spotted and always make sure to angle the hull a bit. This will increase the tanks survivability, however the best way to stay in the fight is to sidescape. With 80mm of side armour the Tiger can sidescrape well and the armour won't get overmatched. Below is a picture showing the ideal angle to sidescape at:

Firepower
Shell types:
Armour piercing: 320 alpha, 225mm of penetration
APCR: 320 alpha, 286mm of penetration
HE: 420 alpha, 60mm of penetration
Gun statistics:
Rate of fire: 5.26
DPM: 1925
Accuracy: 0.34
Aiming time: 2.24
Dispersion: 0.31 at 100m
depression: -8 degrees
Elevation: 15 degrees
The Tiger 2 has a reliable gun, with fairly good accuracy. This means that the tank handles mid-long range engagements well, which is useful as when bottom tier the tank fills a support role and is best not being on the frontline (that doesn't mean camp the redline though). The dpm is good when compared to it peers, although it is a downgrade from the Tiger 1 so it can feel a bit underwhelming. The alpha isn't the highest or lowest in tier, and whilst it means the tank can take a chunk out of tier 6 tanks, most tanks of a higher tier aren't intimidated by the alpha damage, so it doesn't have any fear factor.
The shell penetration is good, and APCR is only really needed when dealing with heavily armoured tier 9 and 10 tanks, so loading 10, at most 15 APCR shells will be sufficient to deal with being heavily bottom tier when MM decides to be cruel. Due to the fairly accurate gun, aiming for weakspots on higher tier tanks is a viable option even at range, which helps decrease the need for the APCR. regarding the HE, it's HE. take a few, and by that i mean 3-4 into battle to deal with cap resets or the odd light tank. Alot of people like to load HE for Borsigs and waffles, however they tend to troll a bit so i find AP is still a better choice as 320 damage is better then potentially bouncing off a waffle turret with HE (it happens quite often).
The 8 degrees of gun depression mean the Tiger 2 is comfortable on nearly all terrain, and it has a decent amount of elevation too. This means that unlike some heavies the Tiger 2 doesn't have to be afraid of engaging enemy tanks on hilly terrain.

Mobility
Speed limit: 38 kph
reverse speed limit: 12kph
Engine power: 870hp
Hull traverse: 28
Turret traverse: 27
The console version of the Tiger 2 is more agile than its PC counterpart due to the old German nerf/un-nerf that WG did and messed up a bit. Gameplay wise it feels like a really agile heavy considering its weight, and you should use this mobility to your advantage by pushing, relocating and retreating when necessary. The Tiger 2 is not the kind of heavy that is committed to taking 1 route for the whole game, so keep an eye on the map, and make sure you are where you are most needed.
