I like my light tanks.. a lot. I'm not great at it yet but seeing those assisted damage ribbons stacking up is very satisfying. I'm even starting to be able to not immediately fire my gun at every red I see.
So.. how can I light tank on Himmelsdorf? I just have no idea where to go. I don't suiscout, but it seems no matter where I go to try to get a forward spotting position, I'm too close to enemies and have very limited escape routes.
Any tips or thoughts?
Thanks.

I'm more of an active scout (not suicide scouting, but active), so I play more for damage. I usually go up the hill. I climb to the top, when I spot the enemies, I run like a little sissy. I let the meds and heavies deal with them, then when we take the hill I go up to the crack in the wall or the "cliff" and attempt to snipe. If no one is in a good position to get sniped or there's a lot of arty I'll go arty hunting. Finally, I pick on the stragglers left on the reds.

If you head up the middle road from either spawn to your buildings on either side, you will spot anything that uses the opposite middle road. If you then move to poke either corner of your row of buildings (either curved road below hill or long straight away over toward the tracks), you will pick up more spots. You might have time to do both corners if you light is quick enough and you are a good driver, but getting the middle and one side road will net a decent amount. This is all active of course because you will likely be spotted when you drive middle toward town square. Many games it is worth the amount of spots you get. A really aggressive scout and good driver (not me) will sometimes drive into town square and right up to their buildings on their side of the square. If you have good team support, you can be a real pain in the ass there. If not good support, you will die a quick and horrible death.

In addition to what bullpup said, if you have the good fortune to take the hill uncontested you can get great vision down the D and G lines which tend to be hot spots for tanks.

As others have said, I run straight up the middle to the courtyard (but don't go in the courtyard), then take that roads towards the hill. Then I go up the hill and spot, then come back down. By then, most of the red positions are established. You can see where you can go to flank or dash to the red base.

When I run my Bulldog, and get this map, I run to the burt down building with the "ramp" to the left of the middle at G6. I tend to spot tanks up to A5, tanks running from B5-B0 when they hit B7, then tanks at D3, D4, and D6. I also set up shop there in my Hellcat and T25/2. Play Peek-A-Boom if they spot me. The T25/2 does the best for me at G6 since the mantel tends to bounce quite a few rounds st the angle it is at when you back-up slightly and hide the top of the turret behind it. But back to Light tanks. After G6 is "used up" and the battle moves from those spots I start to play the opertunistic pain in the ass and start taking pot shots at the reds while they are distracted. biggest thing though is to watch the map for the status of the hill. If the reds take it they can knock you out form above. This is also a good spot , if you have the opening, to bolt down the middle to red's arty and take them out. I'm still working on my timing so this works for me, most of the time, but others it may not.

Sometimes waiting for that opening to get in the backfield and kill arty is all lights can do city maps like Himmelsdorf. Just make sure you check the map often so you don't miss that opening.

Himmelsdorf is a classic case of "armor vs speed" map design. It is far from my favorite map but it does make the 152mm Boomdog quite the feared opponent. If I'm in one of my "scouting" lights, I too tend to make a middle run, followed by either a hill-climb or, if it is too crowded, I go play down by the track and abuse my camo.
The Boomdog, however, is a hill tank. Nothing like hitting one of the big-boys right in the nose, breaking modules and killing crew. And if that damn Waffeneasymode-100 pops his head over the other incline, boom, headshot!
