I made the (poor) decision to speed-up the 5 Epochs by venturing into random battles for the first time in over a year. Seeing as how I only have CVs at tier 4, I decided, what the heck, how bad can it be.
Yeah, I know, I'm an idiot.
My win-rate was poor (12 victories out of 20 battles) and the level of toxicity reminded me why I avoid random battles. In 2 of the losses, I was TK'd by battleships within the first 5 minutes. I know CVs are less than popular (yet there sure were a lot of them queueing up), but the level of vitriol from my own "team" was disappointing, especially as I went out of my way to scout more than attack.
Sadly, I took karma hits every time I went into battle. I know karma doesn't matter, but still, it is annoying.
Given that many of the people I was playing with/against were experienced players grinding out the mission requirements, it was interesting watching the ships and being able to immediately figure out who had all the skills, flags and upgrades versus those poor newbies that got tossed into the meat grinder. I deliberately concentrated on the better players once I identified them as, let's be honest, any Tier IV CV can make mincemeat of some poor newb in his brand new Tier 3/4 BB. Besides, the DDs usually killed those guys faster than John Wick stacks bodies.
All that said, I was amazed to find that I had more average damage in the Hosho than any of the others even though the AP Bombs refused to find any citadels. Here is the Avg damage per CV:
Hosho - 53.4k Rhein - 46.7k Langley - 40.4k Hermes - 34.6k
I'm almost finish with the Tier IV grind, but I've got to ask myself if it is worth it to keep exposing myself to Randoms, or if I should just stick with the low toxicity environment of COOP.

The rewards in randoms are much better than coop, so your grind would actually be faster. I dont know how so many people have that bad of luck, I play my Ark Royal pretty regularly and I havent once been teamkilled in random yet?
I just basically ignore chat fost of the time

Yeah, I pretty much ignore chat as much as possible tbh.
Your win rate is better than my last 20 games -- I'm at like 41% wins despite doing almost double my avg damage. :-(
Also as a reminder: you can do campaign missions more than once. You'll get the stars, but not the rewards. So if you find one that's easy for you, you can repeat it. :-)

I'm all too aware that the grind will go much faster in randoms versus co-op, and, to be honest, the toxicity directed at me really doesn't bother me as I've had professional dressing downs by people I actually respect.
What toxicity that did bother me, and had me using up my reports, was how abusive the obviously experienced players were towards the folks just learning the game.
As for the TKs that happened, well, they certainly managed to lose those particular matches in spectacular fashion as the other teams kept their CVs alive and spotting certainly makes a difference. On the other hand, I had a couple of matches where teammates deliberately stayed nearby and kept OpFor DDs at arm's length while my AA kept them safe from aerial attack.
In retrospect, I guess I'm just disappointed in the experienced players and feel bad for the newer guys trying to get their feet under them. I honestly saw the old "uninstall" and/or "kill yourself" comments in 75% of the games.
I know I’m complaining a bit here but I just despise that sort of behavior.

In general, I have noticed a severe degradation in the playerbase since COVID. Maybe it's just anecdotal - but I find the game 1) much less enjoyable these days 2) find most games are steamrolls - been a long time since I've participated in a close game 3) have seen a massive collection of "teammates" playing in the absolute dumbest ways possible.
As an example to #3, I took a cap in the Kleber. I was roughly 5km away/in front of my nearest teammate. At no point in the game had any enemy ship been spotted within 9km of me. The torpedo warning popped up - just in time for me to have time to dodge....the torpedo fired by my "friendly" Tirpitz. I didn't even bother dodging.

I couldnt agree more. I play pretty regularly right now and I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the poor quality teammates. The decisions they make are just bewildering.
I was in my Ognevoi(tier 8) yesterday heading south on a map to the A cap with 2 Yamato's, a Montana, a Pommern and a Hindenburg. As I got closer to the cap I detected the enemy Akizuki ahead of me, as well as a Repub, Mass and an Venezia. I fired a spread of torps at the Venezia and caught him mid turn with 5 of them. Our Hindenburg finished him off but got dev struck by the Repub a second later. I had turned and started to head out of the cap because an Alaska and a De Moins showed up to help the reds. I was constantly spotting 6 ships, firing torpedos at them from stealth for 7 minutes. I looked at my mini-map and what did I see?
Both Yamatos, Montana and Pommern all sailing as fast as they could in the opposite direction, 23km's away from me. The remainder of our team was losing on the flank they lemminged to, and the 4 ships with me holding my flank turned tail and ran, abandoning me. I managed to get 95,000 dmg from torpedo attacks, and ended the game 3rd in xp.
I had 6 enemy ships spotted for around 12 minutes and I finished with 12,000 spotting assist, which is brutal. The 4 BB's got flanked and pummeled after I died. They each turned and charged the flank solo, melting under combined fire then complaining in chat about no support. It was brutally bad.
This is just one of many, many examples
