The Vulcan’s are all grounded now. I still don’t get why Maggie went seal clubbin’ Not much there for Brits, and something like 250 British dead. They should have gifted the land back to Argentina. Not sure if they are unofficially still at war or not but. 4 years later, the nations went to war again, Argentina executed the hand of god manoeuvre. It was never Argentina's to begin with though, they actually went there but left because there was nothing. We colonised it and have stayed ever since, the Islanders actually had a vote to see what they wanted to do and all but 2 voted to remain close to Britain (not surprising really). I've done a few patrols down there to let them know we're still about, not that they could do anything these days anyway. One of our Type 45's could down their entire airforce from the Falklands waters before they reached cruising altitude. And our Subs could easily take any ships out before they got close. They actually conducted invasion exercises before our last election in case Corbyn won because they knew he wouldn't defend the Falklands. Even most of the Argentinian residents of the Falklands voted to remain a B.O.T

Based on my understanding of the history it seems England was certainly justified to protect it's citizens.
Out of curiosity, does the UK still have the capability to project power that far away anymore?
Yes. The military presence in The Falklands is much, MUCH more powerful than before. Theres a nuclear sub and a couple of surface vessels including a Daring class Destroyer there permanently, the RAF maintain 4-6 Typhoons, the SAS, Royal Marines and RAF Regt all maintain a deployment there alongside regular rotations of army units. And projection isnt a problem with the QE, Bulwark and the RFA alongside conventional surface ships. That’s probably overkill given that Argentina’s Military Order of Battle (MOB) is horse shit.

Yeah they've got a ski jump. I think the US and French Navies are the only ones to use a catapult and arresting gear system. The Chinese are working on it with the Russian carrier they purchased. So that'll mean China will have to build a new Carrier then. 😬

Think we also do it since they found billions of barrels worth of oil that way. And it's always good to maintain the training levels.

It’ll be some time before they’ll be proficient at launching and recovering aircraft at sea via catapult and arresting gear. There’s a reason only two Navies have done it.

Oh its definite overkill. Especially with naval tomahawks wandering around down there. But for some reason the Argies keep rolling out the rhetoric every time they need to deflect from some national or economic crisis.
