So far my favorite line is the American line. Ultimately I like the Japanese gun boats and the German dds but find the Russian dds a hit lackluster

It's my least played class but I do like the Kidd alot! The US ones seem to have a nice balance between guns and torps.

My favorite class, although cruisers are making a big push for my time, haha.
I started with US and KM lines, have since added IJN and RN, dabbling with the RU line, as well.
I like the balance of the US line. Mid-range torps but dakka-dakka-smoke-dakka-dakka.
The KM line is also balanced, but differently - less smoke more hydro. Mostly longer-range torps vs US.
The RN line is ok, the Cossack has been a positive surprise. I like the "escape smoke" - short duration but fast cool down.
I like the stealth torps of the IJN line, but am also working towards the gunboat line (they don't really separate themselves until tiers 6/7). The lower-tier guns on both lines are less-than-meh.
I'm only on the Podvoisky for the RU line, and I'm not spending much time with it. The Okhotnik and Leningrad are very good, in different ways, however.

The US line is the most n00b friendly--guns are good at all tiers, and torps just get better as you progress, with the Fletcher being the highlight (and which I will unlock tonight -- w00t!!!!!). German (KM) are my second fave. Hydro let's you rush smoke, the torps are balanced reload and range, and if you run the 150mm guns, you can use super heavy German AP to blap the shit outta DDs and cruisers (tho u lose DPM). The IJN line has been nerfed so damn hard it is sad. Lots of pain until like tier VIII. The Pan Asian line is...weird. A mix of hand me downs that you have to play so differently. You can't rush other DDs until the Gaja (which is a GREAT boat) and even then you have to be careful because you can't torp them. Their premiums are also odd since they don't have deep water torps. They are, however, BB killers in the extreme. Soviets aren't DDs. They are mini cruisers. Play them as such. Brits I dont have a lot of experience with, but seem like harrassers and that's it. I hate the Gallant.  Overall, I find them the most difficult, but rewarding class. They can carry hard when played well due to spotting, devastating strike potential, and ability to play objectives. Issue comes at high tiers, where it becomes a "How Many Radars Can I Bait Without Dying" minigame. Anyhoo, not sure any of this helps, but...  |

I have the soviet tier 7 dd Minsk. Keep your distance and rain fire down on enemy ships while AWSD hacking. You will avoid insane amounts of fire. Russian dd's slow down and speed up extremely quickly with miniscule detection ranges, so gunning from smoke is hilarious (watch for torps)
Her torps are extremely short range but high damage and speed, and are difficult to dodge at the ranges they are fired at. Island hugging and abushing work well in the russian DD's, otherwise their torpedos are a footnote.
