I haven't played the rework yet, but based on what I've seen, I think it will open the class up to more people and hopefully balance it better.

CV sniping seems to be a thing of the past. Last game the enemy CV crossed the map and we went head to head. He was moving I wasn't. I think the island I was next to made it more difficult for his drops. Neither of us killed one another.
Rockets and Bombs are manually aimed but not as difficult as the old style. Also you get about two drops before you have to return to the carrier. If the ships are spaced right you can drop one one and then drop on the next.
Another thing, once you're done with one squadren you press F to return, then you can selext the next squadren and start your next run! You don't have to follow the other squadren back to the carrier!!
So much non stop action! No waiting on your planes to come back.

I think it will improve gameplay and make it more realistic. Ships grouped up will have stronger AA and receive less damage. DDs have to watch out for planes with rockets too.

How is close quarters combat handled? Do you have to use the map to move your cv?

How is close quarters combat handled? Do you have to use the map to move your cv? I still set waypoints to keep my cv moving. Ive only played tier 4 so far and I'm getting ready for tier 6. Fighters aren't a player option. They seem to automaticly lunach when you get in range of other carriers. CV sniping is a complere waste of time. You can run endless runs teamed up with a teammate and it doesn't seem effective. They will still be the last boats alive. This makes attacking other ships more of a priority. The Japanese cvs are harder to play. They have smaller flight groups, but the attack is more accurate (the bloom or attack feild is also smaller)and they flight gtoups reload almost instantly. Since they are smaller AA eats them up so you may not get 2 runs in per flight like with the American ones. Attacks are more effective when planned out, as in flying in from the right angle. Nuking boats doesn't seem to be a thing anymore either. I look for wounded ships to funish off. Also spotting seems different, islands block your line of sight so ships don't pop up instantly. Islands can make attacks a pain, more so than before. Maybe it's just becuase I'm actually following my planes instead of looking at a map but I'm more aware of my anhle of attack and the direction I come from.

How is close quarters combat handled? Do you have to use the map to move your cv? If you don't have any planes in the air you can drive your carrier like any other boat with WASD controls. Camera controls are the sane too. Tier 6 the AA on ships and CVs is WAY more effective. You only get one torp drop but it seems you get unlimited aiming time. When aiming torps you fly really low too. I've only managed one torp drop so far but it's just me figuiring it out. They seem ALOT easier to aim and lead than with the old system. I also lost my entire squadren due to the CVs AA. Also on my fighters seem to be a consumable that last 2 minutes. You can see when the other players fighters are active ny seeing a red or green fighter icon on the screen. I'll try to get more screenshots.

Sorry for all the typos. I just had one cup of coffee I also think the non stop action of these battles is adding to it.
The gameplay is alot more active and action packed then before. People sayibg it's boring are probably the old cv players getting salty.

I can't figure out where the screenshots are so I guess there won't be any.
You can change direction ofyour carrier or move it while flying. Just go to map mode and select a waypoint. I didn't see a speed control though but its better than no movement at all.
Also still got my first successful torpedo attack. I was wrong about the one strike, they do reload but I doubt you will get more tyan two. AA is really effective even with lone ships. A DD poped smoke by a BB and ruined my torp run, I couldn't see anything in time and their AA destroyed my planes before I could drop again. So I'll be avoiding smoke.
I have a feeling that isn't quite new, I'm just more aware of whats going on since I actually follow my planes all over instead of just looking at a map.

You can still "cross drop" You just have to do two drops at different angles like before, just try to catch them off guard on the 2nd pass.
Rockets are the easiest and most accurate to aim, bombs come in 2nd, torps are tricky but no where near as hard as before.
Also figured out how to speed up and slow down my planes (you use W to speed up S to slow down) there's a limit to how much you use. It does come in handy for torp drops and distant boats.

Played a game in the Hakuryu abd then the Midway. Tier 8 was kinda rough becuase every game I shared with a tier 10 cv. Even then, it was just "kinda" rough. Tier 10 is fucking worth it!!! I got big squads of badass planes and a spud like me can still do some damage and still have ALOT of fun! Can't wait to play my Hak more! Usually when I play I struggle to do decent damage and end up paying out 100k per game. Every now and then I might do ok, but never in Random. With this rework I might actually return to random battles. If you give your US capt a speedy plane build your rocket (attack/old fighters) planes will go stupid fast (over 300kmh). So much fun! I'm definitely gonna finish my US cv grind now!

Thanks for the info, been trying to get an idea what it's like from someone other than the whiners on the official forum. Still wonder how long it will be before we see CV's in legends. Supposedly ( according to official FAQ in open forum) they will be added after they figure out the PC rework.

Now if you're out doing a run and you notice you need to move your CV, you can still hit m goto map mode and set waypoints to manuver or start moving and then hit m agsin to return to your planes. Kinda gotta do it fast becuase your planes just fly straight when you're looking at your map.
If you must have direct control, ditch the run by pressing f to return your planes to carrier and you will go back to cv drive mode and you can still dodge torps.
In an unrelated note, I figured out I could hook up my laptop to my tv. Now I can see my battle on a 42" screen!!! yay!

oh one more thing, if your carrier is burning you can still luanch planes without wasting points on a stupid captains skill.
While we're talking about captains skills, Air Superiority changed. You just get more planes on deck, faster. No extra plane on squads.

With unlimited planes it still feels like there needs to be an increase in standard defensive aa consumable. I enjoy the play style now, but feel they are still awfully strong, not broken by before, but if they want you deleted it will probably happen. I guess that can be said of most ships though.

I would imagine that they dumbed down the controls for Cv to port them to console. It would be hard to control 6 squadrons with a controller.

Ok, I figured out where the pictures are. Here's screenshots of the rocket for starters. In the first shot you see the white circle with the crosshairs (important, just getting your target in the circle or zone won't work). In the second picture you will see the green circle, this last a few seconds before your planes return to normal altitude. Sorry I could not shoot at actual targets and get screenshots.

Here you will see the Bomb oval. Lining up your planes beforehand is important. You want to be head on, when I approached from the back the boats seemed to outrun the planes. The less adjustments you make as you get closer the smaller your oval will be. Depending on your target you might give a little lead on the first click. The planes will start diving and you'll have to adjust your camera to see the oval, it will go from yellow to green, when its green click again, bombs away!
