Any of you guys play CVs? Been considering it but would like your thoughts. Not sure if I would be good at it.

I know ZER01025 plays CV. Not sure about anyone else in our clan.

I have 5 battles in Langley in randoms. I have a 40% win rate. CVs require a lot of micromanagement and more than any other type of ship, a good computer.
That being said, CV in co-op is an absolute blast!

That being said, CV in co-op is an absolute blast! I really wish there was no grind through BB's to get to CV's With my limited playtime it's going to be awhile before I can even try them. Hell if they had a low tier premium CV I would just buy that.

Only problem with a low tier prem CV is the lack of manual drops.

It's not "bad", necessarily. Except that if a DD is in smoke, you can't drop anything on him...at all. Just seems like a very underwhelming experience.

Manual drops aren't absolutely imperative. You can have excellent games in a low tier CV. It just makes smokescreens a little more annoying and dive bombers a lot less reliable against destroyers and cruisers especially.
You can still manually change the angle your plan attacks from, so you can still bisect ships with your torpedo planes as a japanese CV, or force a ship to go side on to your torpedos with a bomber squadron.
CV play is all about strategy and mind games. You try and lure the enemy fighters to a teammates ship before you engage them, to try and stack up the AA on the fighters and preserve as many of your own as you can.
Changing attack angles or even attacking with a squadron of torps with a few second delay between squads can force a BB into a hard turn, with the second torp squad launching their torps as the BB is in making a full turn, basically guaranteeing a full hit.
With CV's, ALWAYS choose the skill that increases torpedo speed at the cost of range at level 2. The drop in range is a non issue since cv torps are dropped from the air, and the increase in speed makes it 30% harder to dodge or react.

Boy do I suck in carriers lol.
Can I switch out of map view after I launch planes? I hit M on the keyboard but it won't let me.

You want map view. You need to keep tabs on your planes at all times. If a dd or any ship gets within range of your carrier, move the view to overtop of your ship nd control it from that point of view.
Unless you are being spotted, you should always be paying attentiom to your planes.
ask yourself, what ships are around, where are the enemy fighters and attack squads? Where are the DD's? If you attack a BB, is it a hood or a Texas? If its a CA, is it a cleveland? look at the position of a ship, is it sailing straight ahead? Of so, whats the best way to flank, always be prepared to return your planes back to your carrier.
Hitting F key recalls the selected squad, and they gain a ~20% speed bonus when recalled, allowing them to escape an enemy fighter squadron.
If there is nothing around that is good target, use a relatively expendable squadron (generally dive bombers) to scout, spot enemies, and search for enemy carriers. if you lose a few to enemy AA, its not as devastating as losing a full torpedo squadron.
Conservation of assets is an absolute must in a game at lower tiers. If you cant minimise your losses for the damage you could do, dont attack. If you have a cruiser stuck on an island in your sights, but there is a texas or cleveland right next to it, dont bother attacking. The loss of a full squadron isn't worth a few torpedo hits, at low tiers anyways.

The 1 I did survive was where I set waypoints in the beginning to keep my ship moving while I focused on my aircraft. It's also the only battle I survived long enough to launch a 2nd strike. Im not sure how to identify the ships beyond class in the overhead view, but I won't go near a Texas if I can avoid it lol.

Hold ALT while you are overtop of them. It should at least display the name of the ship you are looking at.

No prob. Make sure at the start of each round the first thing you do is move your carrier. Use the autocontrol, and keep moving. Keep an eye on how your team is doing and what flanks are stronger or about to fall and start moving towards your team's strong side immediately, most CV's at low tiers are extremely slow.

The 20% speed bonus only applies after a squadron has dropped their bombs/torps.

Learned something today
A stock Langley with no captain skills or modules has no buisness being in a random battle with tier 5 carriers
