This isn't a particularly new map, but it's one that still feels unfamiliar to me every time I load into it.
The city is a death trap, the hills have way too many trees and well... hills, for me to be effective. The only good experience I've ever had on it was top tier in an O-I, and that's not much to talk about anyway.
It just feels like there's so much going on (terrain-wise) that it bogs me down. I can never get a good read off when I'm playing the hills, cause there's so damn many, and as I've said, the city feels like driving into a cage.
Maybe I just need to play the right side exclusively, that seems like the only good engagement area.
I'd like to hear your advice for this map though, right now it's not working for me, and with the frequency it appears in our limited map-rotation I definitely need to improve my play on it.

If i'm in a medium i tend to sweep around the far western side of the map, using the hills as cover and to use against heavies should any head that way. If i'm playing a heavy, from south spawn i also head west, but stick to the outer road around the town, and either head into the city at the western edge, or circle the city to get side shots into the reds sitting on the tracks.
From north spawn i honestly just wing it, i hate north spawn in a heavy. More often than not i'll head to the city and turn into it a couple of roads down from the fountain and try to catch people off guard as they always sit and stare at the fountain and the tanks there.
If i'm playing a TD i tend to try and get a LoS on the fountain/roundabout as there are always tanks there so it's guaranteed easy damage.
That's just me though. It's not a map i'm overly fond of.

I've only tried a few approaches, those being the most obvious three. Right side over the tracks, down the middle into the center of town and far left in the hills. No luck, I've almost given up on it and wing it now, going whichever way I want until the match ends.
I need to try the left, hugging the city as you suggested. I just don't enjoy this map.

It's a bit of a crap map tbh mate, there's never a decent flow of battle to it. The city is too compact for heavies to properly fight in and there always ends up being clusterfucks of tanks getting in each others way, and even the hills aren't great for the mediums as you don't have the freedom of movement that alot of other maps provide. I can't think of any class that gets to excel on that map.

I tend to hang back in the hills and wait to see how the battle develops. The reds usually go in town as well as push one side of the hills. I tend to flank the weak side after seeing where they are going and push around to flank the town. Still not the perfect route but has worked decent enough for me.

Dont complain about the trees. The Ardennes map is sparsely populated with trees compared to the real Ardennes Forest. Watch The Breaking Point in the Band of Brothers series to give you a better idea.

Greens were outplayed the other day in Ardennes. MM being MM put a gaggle of heavies on the greens and largely all mediums on the reds. Greens were south spawn, we me in an IS4. We pretty much all went town. Literally zero reds went to town and flanked round the west to win by cap. I couldn't get back in time. Grrr. Mental note, pay more attention to team composition on the battle countdown...

Don't listen to R35T, he's a scrub. I only play platooned but if I was solo I'd use the greens as bait and then shoot what they spot. The trouble with Ardenne is that you could be taking on two reds and then two more appear behind you, and all your team can do is die in the town or camp spawn. Set yourself a target and don't be a hero basically.

I'll camp either the East or Wst ends of town and ambush any reds that come my way. Just have to be careful and move if you start getting over run. The T54E1 has taught me that one on this map with its long reload time. You can use the hills as cover and with the layout you can actually double back and flank them without them knowing it, if you don't have to many coming your way and they are not that close before you start to run.
