Use this for finding fellow players for possible wings and/or tips & info. Simply put it is a living breathing Galaxy (when it works!) great visuals and sound track, great for flying about in wings causing trouble. Just can't wait for the Horizons drop later this year

I'm a mega noob in it It takes a while to learn the controls, reading the controller mapping helps loads then once you have the basics you can start re-mapping them to how suits you best. Doing the very first training mission over and over until the controls sink in really helps

Apologies milo, I meant use the training to just play around and learn the controls by trial and error, they certainly drop you in at the deep end by not giving much away. It takes a good few hours of solid play to get the hang of it but once you do it is well worth the low cost for such a huge game Next time I'm on it I'll look out for you online mate and try to help ya

I've got a DiamondBack Scout 90% a-rated that I'm using to farm the RES and collect bounties near Eravate. It's a mean little dog fighter.

Currently floating in about halfway to sagitaius A, good game once you get past the learning curve, their forums are good too, full of helpful players and advice (you know like the wot one used to be) a bit more transparency from the devs would be nice with regards to timescales for content etc.

I'm also doing the pilgrimage to Sagittarius A* - It's taking me months (lack of time to play it) and I'm only about half way there. Unless you play it, its impossible to get across how massive this game is.
For those worried about getting picked on while they learn the ropes - you can play in "solo" mode, which is exactly the same as multiplayer but you can't see or be seen by other players. Then you only have to worry about the odd AI pirate and bounty hunter.
Plus once you get a Cobra Mk.III you can pretty my run away from anyone that tries to kill you.

There was no safe mode so nowhere to hide and getting blasted was pretty final. I ended up using a tiny Scout ship to move about as it wasn't worth someone's time blasting me as there was nothing worth stealing on it. Then at the same time managing freighters plying back and forth to pay to build whatever the equivalent of Battleships was. Huge fun and the thing got very big. Amazing that it was developed in Iceland with a population which is smaller than most cities here in the UK.

Elite is a bit arms-racy, but much more forgiving thanks to "solo" mode. Also, the AI system security forces will come to your aid if you get attacked somewhere civilised.
Plus, the Cobra Mk III is one of the cheapest ships you can save up for and even stock can usually run away from anyone who wants to harm you.

This game swung my decision whether or not to buy the Elite controller. I only have so many fingers that can do things at once.

Which buttons have you assigned to the paddles? I struggled with the controls but that was before i got an elite controller, perhaps it will help.

I just use the two bigger paddles for accelerate and decelerate with a reversed function to the LB /RB button set up. I found this more natural. I had found it awkward using the shoulder buttons when trying to hit other buttons at the same time. to be honest I had though as well you could map the elite controller buttons for multiple button presses. But you can't .

I spent a lot of sleepless nights in the mid eighties hoping across the galaxy on the commodore 64. Played Frontier a little. Haven't tried this yet. I'm sort of a one game at a time guy.

But you can't . you can now do some pretty detailed bindings in elite with the controller set up, even on standard ones. It will even let you use the same buttons in different orders. Eg. if i hold my left stick in and click the right one it toggles orbit lines off, if i hold the right stick and click the left one it zeros the throttle

Oh its changed a bit since then, but the core game is still there except now when you hyperspace you shouldn't miss your destination haha. It can be a bit fiddly to get the hang of it but well worth it once you get going, might be worth bearing in mind that they originally conceived 10 different seasons of expansions and they're only about half way through the second season. So technically you could wait a few years before taking the plunge, looking at the graphics & VR pc users get I'm tempted to get it on pc aswell in a few years.
