All of the attraction to Trump and Bernie are for the same reason, the Republicans and Democrats have made so many promises to the middle class over the last 22 years and followed through on none of them. All we've seen is the income of the top 20% go up by more than 30% in that time, while the rest of us get used to less as the global economy forces our wages flat if not down (when you factor in the loss of benefits and pensions, we're down).

Congress, for all it's bluster, still likes writing checks while revenues flounder. It doesn't matter who gets in, it's going to be more of the same small and special interest dictating what actually gets done.

and in the end, regardless of the winner, like SkagPipe said, it'll just be more of the same. this party blaming the other party for all the problems, empty promises and arguing over nothing important, all while doing nothing to solve any real problems

I lived there. I know damn well what happened. I watched the main street of the town I grew up in go from mom and pop shops that catered to all needs to a mix of Hispanic shops with 90% of their signage in Spanish. My favorite was the used car lot with the advertisement (in spanish) "No License, No Credit, No Problem!".

I've seen the results of unchecked illegal immigration and and we need to put a stop to it quick.

First off any citizen can open a business to cater to a particular clientele. If you see a flood of illegal aliens entering your town you'll either adapt your business to accommodate them or close up shop.

Here is what happened where I lived.. We had a large illegal immigration problem in the 1980's. The solution to this problem was to grant the illegal immigrants that were here illegally amnesty (poof, now they are citizens). In addition to this amnesty we were supposed to get additional border security (that never happened). Well the citizens of other countries saw this and started illegally entering the country in hopes that we would grant another amnesty. Now the original crop of illegal immigrants who are now citizens have built businesses that cater to the new crop if illegal aliens.

I get that illegal immigration is bad and all, but might I ask, what exactly is the issue with all the shops being Hispanic-themed and with signs written in Spanish and all the adverts being in Spanish? America doesn't have an official language, it is after all the "land of the free" with its manifest destiny etcetera, so what exactly is the problem with an area of the US being predominantly Hispanic? I get that illegal immigration is bad, but that shouldn't be a bad point of it or an argument against it. "Area that was White Caucasian is now Hispanic" shouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Would it still be bad if 90% of the population were Hispanic people who had emigrated from Mexico legally? Because the predominance of Hispanic culture in an area seems to be a rather odd thing to dislike about immigrants.
