Yeah bows are great for pure melee builds. I'm going to try a bow build with a dagger for back up depending on how effective they'll end up being in ds3. The tracking and speed though look like it'll be perfectly viable. It was the speed and damage that got to me about trying to use bows. Most of the bosses could close the distance put between you and them in the time it would take for you to get two arrows into them, and that would do like what, 250 damage perhaps, or you could just run in there, dodge the attack and smack them for 600 in the same amount of time to lob the two arrows. So I'm hoping it's not going to be a complete DPM thing and you can get rather strong arrows and implement them in combat far more frequently instead of sword and board as usual and just using it for here or there where you can get an enemy without getting them to actually aggro on you.

I was able to download my digital pre-order bonus (xbox one) of Dark Souls today if anyone else was waiting on that. It's still awesome but also still suffers framerate drops as it did on the 360.

Doesn't surprise me that that still happens on it. It would be rather cool to see the game remade for Xbone/PS4 and potentially a better PC Port, sorta like they did for DSII but on a vastly bigger scale perhaps. Redesigning boss fights, making the combat speed so much faster as like in Bloodborne/DSIII and so on.

Hd remake would be nice but changing anything else would ruin it for me. If it was made to resemble its predecessors it would completely ruin what made it such a pinnacle and great game. There is a reason most see it as the best souls game to be made, nostalgia aside. Sure the combat is slow if going for sword n' board, and the graphics are a bit lackluster. But imo the graphics in a souls game are secondary to the atmosphere and oh so subtle narrative. This is why ds2 failed imo. the atmosphere was not there and too much of the story was told, rather than be left for your character to discover through item descriptions. Also in their attempt to incorporate the lore from ds1 they made their own story convoluted and too pandering. It tried too hard to be a souls game. havent played bloodborne but from the playthroughs Ive seen it follows the foundation of demon and dark souls 1 according to my own expectations. Honestly I hope they kill the dark souls series after 3. Dark souls 3 may or may not be the new pinnacle of the series but even if it is not it has Dark souls 1 to fall back on. But I fear if they continue it trying to cash in on the franchise or trying to recreate the feeling dark souls 1 brought to the rpg genre theyll only further alienate those who made it what it is. But if dark souls 3 can recreate that feeling I had the first time i reached anor londo in 1 I will happily accept all its faults. Dont know if anyone else here agrees but god dam was that moment fucking glorious especially after failing my way through sens fortress. Any way not entierly sure wat I'm talking about anyomore, had a bit more wine than I should have, so good day haha *also forgot dsfix on pc fixes a lot of the port issues already.

It tried too hard to be a souls game. havent played bloodborne but from the playthroughs Ive seen it follows the foundation of demon and dark souls 1 according to my own expectations. I'm not sure how it would ruin it, they could keep the atmosphere and subtle narrative while just increasing the combat speed and whatnot, making Blighttown not fuck up the frame rate so much and anything else. Item descriptions would remain the same, where you fight this or that would remain the same, but instead you go and face down Artorias for instance and it's now a whole lot faster of a fight. Because if they just remade the graphics but left everything else the same, I feel it would be just like what I dislike about Halo CEA so much, and potentially Halo 2 Anniversary as well, all they did was make the game look prettier for the most part and absolutely nothing else, for fear of ruining someone's nostalgia I guess or because they couldn't be bothered. Bloodborne is a brilliant game, if you ever get the chance to play it I would, as you mention the feeling of seeing Anor Londo, I don't think there'll ever be a better feeling than beating Ludwig on NG+10. His boss fight is one of the best in the game by far. Finally got Demon's Souls yesterday after only getting a few hours into it about a year ago before losing PS+ or whatever and not being able to continue it. I have to admit, I'm not really seeing much 'atmosphere' or something, the boss fights while they feel unique in some areas like the Fool's Idol, they too just feel lacking.

Going onwards with my comment that Demon's does appear to lack atmosphere or anything, at least in my opinion. Having just beat the game by this point.
None of the bosses really felt 'memorable', some had nice opening cutscenes or looks like the Tower Knight/Penetrator, but with those two as examples, they were shockingly easy, in fact just about every boss in the game was shockingly easy. I think I died less than 10 times this entire playthrough and at least 3 of them were to the Dragon God until realising I was supposed to Metal Gear Solid that shit.
No bosses that felt memorable or anything like 'Holy shit how do I beat this', areas felt like they were very big but didn't necessarily have that much in them and some areas are completely inaccessible without the World Tendency shit which is just eww. Even with SFX and Voices lowered, the music in the game didn't even seem to be there it was so bloody quiet, even the boss ones seemed almost impossible to actually hear and I would happily say that even the Taurus Demon from Dark Souls has a better song than any of what I heard in my run.
Story didn't even appear to be there for half of it, and there was very little story given by the NPC's I talked to, even Ostrava appeared to have very little to say that actually seemed to have a part in all of this going on.
All in all felt like a very lacklustre game, worth 15 quid, but that it just seemed to have little to it that I could look at and say 'This is the best part of Demon's Souls'.

I'm very early into the game but.. I like it quite a bit so far.
I made a Pyro but I think I might go back and start again with a Strength character. I need a Greatsword in my life. I'll probably just play both characters.

Acquired it on the 12th at about 1:30pm. 100% the game on the 17th, at 7am.
Played Herald, stuck with that set and the Fallen Knight helmet from the first run and almost never changed that, same for the gear, I just ran Lothric Knight Shield and Astora Straightsword the entire time. Character is now at NG+++ at like Lvl 210.
Bloody game is brilliant, although the farming for the Mound-Makers and Blades of the Darkmoon is awful and took about 20 hours even with 400 item discovery, however that's really the only negative I can say of the game. The boss OST's are absolutely amazing, the NPC's are enjoyable and the game itself really does feel like you're at the end of an age.

So i'm playing Dark Souls 3, Which is my first serious play through of a DS game. Only played the first one for an hour or so. All I can say is that I love it. Everything from the environments to the music, to the enemies and weapons are fantastic. And while the game is certainly the most challenging game I've ever played, It manages to not be frustrating at the same time. Playing knight, Have random armor, Carthus Shotal, shield of want, light crossbow, and one pyromancy spell, Which has been extremely helpful dealing with tough enemies. Thinking about dumping the crossbow though, Doesn't do enough to justify holding I think.

Like there's nothing major and it wont ruin your experience to not have the knowledge of this or that from the original, but it definitely makes some things more noticeable. Don't really have to do the same for DSII because while there's a few things it's really just armour and some items I believe. Although playing through the two of them after experiencing DSIII might be amusing to say the least. I would assume you have got to the Catacombs of Carthus then if you have a Carthus Shotel and the Shield of Want. Fun area, if you intend to 100% it you'll learn to hate the place though. I've never really bothered with crossbows and always stuck with bows so yeah I would dump the crossbow and go get the Black Bow of Pharis in Farron Keep.

I got past the Taurus Demon and just didn't feel like putting the effort in to beat the rest of it.
I'm technically past the Catacombs, Haven't 100%ed it yet but I went down killed the Old Demon King, and then headed into the Demon Ruins and yeah....Fuck that place, I'll be back later. . So I'm in the Boreal Valley new.
I already got the Black Bow, Just need to go and acquire arrows for it.

Definitely not a fan of how you can only get 198 arrows of any kind now as opposed to 999 on the other two. Demon Ruins was such a joy, it seems to me like the Old Demon King is essentially a Taurus Demon that's burnt skin and all that. Boreal Valley is one of the most beautiful areas in the game I feel, always a fan of having snowy areas in Souls games.

I fucking love this game. It is everything I've come to want from a souls game. So far I've managed to stay spoiler free so I'm taking my time with it. I just beat the abyss watcher yesterday and am currently in the catacombs.
I'm really enjoying the atmosphere and the boss music is great. The title track and abyss watcher fight track are my favorite so far.
Don't care for the fan service but it's tolerable.
Haven't done much PvP yet but I'll get to that once I figure out which weapons I like and get my fashion souls going.
